    Look who I'm sleeping next to .....

    A couple of hours ago my g/f goes outside for a joint. A few minutes later she's knocking on the sliding glass door with a dog next to her. A very skinny, very hungry, obviously purebred Redbone Coonhound. Poor guy was limping around on a bad rear leg.

    Anyway, we got him a deck chair mattress, I'm sleeping on a couch in the office with a smelly dog. I guess the first thing I need to do is go to the Vet, have him scanned for a chip, then see if his owner or me pays for whatever he needs. What a gentle dog.

      My woman did that shit on vacation with 2 cats and a dog (not at the same time lol). All homeless. She wanted to take them all home on the plane.

                  Good question. Right now a dog that needs a whole lot of exercise and attention isn't something I'm ready for. Plus he's big. Plus I travel a lot.

                  He's a very mild tempered dog/breed but are known for taking off if they smell something interesting. Probably why he's at my house right now.

                                                                                                  Update: Stopped by the vets this morning. The owner was contacted thru the implant data company. The receptionist said the owner was a "big older guy" who spent the whole time there crying and hugging the dog.

                                                                                                  I had no idea how nice and sweet this breed of animal was. I just hope he recovers and lives a happy dog life.

                                                                                                      That's great end to the story, glad the owner was really happy to find his dog, I hope he makes a full recovery too. You are a good man L, who knows where the dog would have ended up if you didn't take him in

                                                                                                              Good job, L-Pink I needed that. I've been bummed out the last few days after having to bury a sweet stray kitty that had taken up at my house. I think it was my neighbors indoor cat that had gotten out about a month before they moved. I reached out to them telling them that I thought their cat had returned, and never heard back from them. No idea how it died - I didn't inspect it closely as it had obviously been dead for at least a couple of days.

                                                                                                              Add to that that I released the squirrel I had raised a couple of weeks ago, and have not seen her lately. The first couple of weeks after release I saw her every day when I went out to feed her (you have to continue to provide food for them for the first year of release). She would jump from a tree onto me, or up on my leg and scamper up to my shoulder to hang out, though I tried to limit this interaction. Anyway, I'm not sure if the smell of decomp drove her away or what, but I estimate that I stopped seeing her around the same time the cat died.

                                                                                                                                              Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants

Sometimes, if doggers run away and are out and about for days, that could lead them to looking like he was malnourished and limping when you got him. Who knows what he got into in his time on the lamb?

And for owners who keep their info up-to-date! Which reminds me, I've got some kitties at home who need their chips updated.

                                                                                                                                                              Regarding keeping an animal if the owner's chipped him and is findable, some states have laws that would call that theft and require that vets call the cops. In others, it's more finder's keepers (after making some effort to identify the owners). If an animal is being mistreated by their owner, the local animal care and control has ways to ensure the well-being of the animal, which can include removing it from the home as needed.
