I have all sorts of injuries yada yada yada, a pain doc suggested narco.. I tuned it down... thinking very seriously about kartom ... any experience here with this or another herbal remedy? (yes I know heroin is herbal

Oh this is something I do have experience with....norco is hydrocodone, other names for it are lortab, vicodin maxidone, lorcet and zycet to name a few
oxycodone aka percoset is also an opiate that is 1.5 times the strength of norco so a 10mg oxycodone is equal to a 15mg hydrocodone.

you should find a different doc maybe tramadol is NOT for chronic pain and if its causing you headaches be very careful it can trigger grand mal seizures. I was on it for moderate arthritic pain and it made me bite my tongue at night...when I tokld the doc he freaked and said dont take it anymore
yes opiates can be addictive but if you have chronic pain you have to weigh it out.
When I broke my leg i had withdrawals like a serious flu for 3-4 days then it was over....fortunately opiate withdrawal is short all in all to me the withdrawals were worth it as they will be this time...though im told using the kratom will make them either non existent or a lot easier just dont get hooked on the kratom which can be mildly addictiveMike South

Methadone.
It is an amazing analgesic, even at low doses.
For instance, I used to take 100 MG of oxycodone a day and can achieve the same pain relief with 20 MG of methadone.
For comparison, someone entering methadone treatment for opioid addiction is typically started at 160 MG of methadone.
A bonus is that [at least at my dose] it does not make you feel high -- at all -- so you will not become addicted. I did choose to discontinue it once and withdrawal was a bitch, even when managed, but I got through it. It is apparently harder to withdrawal from methadone than heroin, but that may not be a concern if it is chronic pain.

I stopped taking it on Monday and feel better no idea why i get a headache with them im taking panadol/codeine/asprin daily and seems to help but not as good as Tramadol. Its for knee pain and doc does not seem interested in trying anything else he told me to get Voltaren but that makes it hurt worse. I get my mri back in a few days so hopefully doc will be able to give me something better.Comment

You know what really works for me, like a champ? Vitamin C. 3,000 MG in the morning and 3k at night. You can adjust it to your own body and needs.
If you are still in pain it isn't enough C; if you get the runs, it is too much C. It is really easy to tell. Sometimes the pain relief is worth it. And I don't mean you will be running, you just don't want to fart.
Also works for weight loss.Comment

I can't take morphine, for some reason it tends to frazzle my nerves. I have chronic back pain, sciatica, osteo arthritis, worsening joint pain, all of which is fallout stemming from a spinal fusion corrective surgery I had when I was 16.
I currently take, as-needed, 750 mg Naproxen 24 hr slow-release tabs.
I have as an as-needed supplement to that: Naproxen 500 mg, and in the event of any muscle/tendon/ligament seizures (neck, upper back, usually) I have some 10 mg Cyclobenzaprines on hand.
All of it as-needed though. I'm not a big pill guy, and avoid taking them if I can help it. Thus I do put up with a lot of pain every day, but when things get too bad I take one of those 24 hr SR's and I at least get some sleep at night.
In the past I've done the acupuncture, physiotherapy, chiro, basically any type of therapy out there. My diet is very good, I get plenty of fibre, vitamins, minerals, and a higher than normal amount of vitamin C in particular.
Currently the chiropractor I'm going to is helping somewhat, and I'm also getting Facet Block Intervention every 3 months (12 horse-needles in lower back, commonly referred to as "cortizone shots"). I've been getting those for over 2 years now. They help, although marginally. They do nothing for the sciatica though.
There are a few surgical procedures that might benefit me by way of relieving the sciatica, and I'm waiting to hear from a specialist on those. But in the meantime, for the kind of chronic pain I think you're referring to, (the kind that few people really know about) I recommend that if you can take Naprosin then try the 750 mg SR'ers. They're not cheap, but they do at least take the edge off, and you don't have to keep taking pills every 3 or 4 hours.Promote Wildmatch, ImLive, Sexier.com, and more!!
