Traffic may be small, but should be pretty qualified clicked traffic. If the funnel was right, the small quantity of traffic should still generate revenue/book markers.
If someone on the Tumblr team is reviewing your blog and they are having a bad day they may delete it for no reason at all.

About your example above; that is a better way to monetize and is less likely to get your account banned but again, if they believe that you are making money they will terminate your account.

To play their game you have to set up yours to incorporate that aspect of it.
