I've encountered 666 multiple times in my life, and have never had a negative experience associated with it. Most times, if I with a friend, we usually throw up the devil horns and laugh.
Likewise, like SK said, I've had good luck with the number 13. One year in little league baseball, my uniform number was 13. I ended up with the best batting average on the team through most of the season. I've claimed 13 as my lucky number since then.
For me, it's all superstition, and I don't put much (if any) credit in 666 being bad luck. But I think it depends on the personal, and I think that it's psychological. If you get yourself in the frame of mind that something bad is going to happen, I think you're already paving the path to something bad happening.
