I Really Hate This SEO Stuff...

Just when I thought I had something going with Google... BAM back down to page 29! This is the second time this has happened. The first time I was up to page 6 for my term then BAM down to 20. This time I was up to page 4 and sometimes page 3 for my term and I got smacked down 29.

I quit, I clearly have no idea what I'm doing. Maybe I over-optimized my site... if that's even possible.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this may have happened?

How old is your site? New sites with google tend to do this. Your site needs to be up for about 4 months atleast before you start seeing solid and stable results from google. Do you keep changing your site around aswel?

Yeah you can. Its a pain, but the rewards are worth the time.

Do yourself a favor though, Check the other SE's and see where you are listed. Do some research, and try and get better listings there. they have traffic it converts and its easier to get better rankings. Google will come in time.

Imagine doing it for a living!

The idea is to make multiple sites (with unique content) with different seo strategies and to hope one of the sites gets good placement. Anything else that ranks well is considered gravy.

maybe you need more backlinks to help solidify your rank? read about the "weight" of a site and how it can help.

Well, adding content is fine. But removing and changing content regularly can damage your SERPS. For example if you have an advert on your website and you change it for another advert sometimes google lowers your SERPS for a week or two, if the change stays then your results should go back to normal. But if you keep tweaking your title tags etc for SEO all the time google will not like it. But I am no SEO expert, try hitting up pr0, if he has some time he might help you - he has helped me a few times with my SEO issues and is very friendly to talk too!

thanks for the reply... i rarely change any of the information in my header... and my homepage doesn't change much either, other than the column for daily updates... im sure i'll get back up to where I was later this month, it just sucks that it fluctuates so much...

So, are you ranking high for "new phrases" like a new solo girl that no one has heard of, then drop?

If so, you are ranking high because you are the only one promoting them. As time goes on, older sites learn of her, add a page or two and G finds them.

Since they are older and deeper than you, down you go.

                              Just a possibility.
