Final Cut Pro X is $300, add another $50 for Compressor.

I have used: Sony Vegas, Adobe Premier Pro, and Final Cut Pro X. I also have Camtasia, which is a really nice program, but if your goal is to edit videos then you should run with a software that is dedicated to editing videos.

Right now I'm using Final Cut Pro X over Sony Vegas. I don't know why but the quality always seems better with Final Cut Pro X over Sony Vegas, and it will open videos that Sony Vegas always flagged as error videos. Granted if you don't have a Mac, go with Adobe Premier Pro as it is absolutely fantastic, but quite a bit more expensive if you run on the CC platform.
