I've seen my share of ass kissing and selling out in my time but this shit takes the cake. First class, stand up companies don't try to rip affiliates off like Video Secrets did. Remember Video Secrets had your thread deleted. Video Secrets had you and others standing up for you banned. The only reason you got your money in the first place is because of your fellow webmasters, some of them now banned from this board for doing so.

Maybe something else happened that we do not know about and that explains the turn around on the whole issue from beginning to end. Leave it to GFY to ponder only the worst thoughts in people all in the name of a "See sig..."

That about sums it up. A shame as I had a bit of respect for the guy until that point. It seems though that he probably didn't deserve the payment really as obviously his own ethics are no better. Oh well.

First off, most of these so called "examples" are way off the mark.

The situation is not at all like what people are trying to compare it to.

This is what happened, not some misleading characterization of it by board warriors, VS changed their policy YEARS AGO and they tried to inform the affiliate that the policy had been changed. The affiliate didn't want to go by the new terms and felt that the new terms should not be retroactive to when he signed up. Simple. Reasonable. Most affiliates under VS were under the new terms and ZERO of them ever stepped up to say that VS cut off their accounts or withheld funds. In fact, no one besides Chrome ever stepped in to say they ever had a problem with VS paying, who in fact have made thousands of webmasters literally MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of cash since they began over 10 years ago. I defy anyone to audit their VS accounts and find a single underpayment. The only other complaint was from one of their thousands of former and current models about a technical issue that was resolved to everyone's satisfaction... long ago.

I happen to know for a fact that the mob justice mentality only made matters worse in this case because instead of actually creating a mutual resolution of the problem it made VS defensive. Chrome admitted he did not contact VS when asked repeatedly to do so, even on the checks he was receiving. No disrespect to him but perhaps he could have discussed his issue in a way that achieved the same results without bringing it to the boards. The people that discussed this privately and professionally with VS are the ones that really created positive resolutions here. Not the flamers and the pissants who think they "won one" for the poor defenseless affiliate.

Sure, VS could have done a better job communicating their position and being defensive did not help their public relations but they are not theives. How do I assume this? One of the requirements of people that joined the case against Acacia was that they had to be willing and able to show their books in discovery and they had to pass by certain professional and ethical standards. Sure, it was in retrospect not a great idea to make the terms retroactive - but it was not STEALING - they just wanted to keep working with the affiliate in a way that was productive - that qualifies it as a marketing decision and not a theft or a cheat. The point was made by reasonable people and peers that they should not be retroactive to terms previously made and VS saw the ethical and reasonable side of it and acted accordingly. Not everyone makes great decisions all the time. But if you look at the history of VS they have made 99% good decisions and one bad one in over 10 years, how many other companies can say the same that have been around as long? More importantly, how many of those companies actually corrected their problem in a way that was mutually beneficial and acceptable to all concerned?

At this point, the only ones to gain anything by continuing to flame away are the disingenuous, disgruntled, and delusional... the carpetbaggers trying to gain a marketing advantage, anons, haters, and holier than thous that just want attention, and the kind of so-called affiliates that are more of a financial drain than an income generator for not just a program like VS but any program. Chrome calls for peace and future prosperity like a professional and everyone turns on him and says he is a traiter to the cause. I think he is behaving like a businessman, not an ethics professor.

Guys.....relax....remember I came onto GFY to post my story for one main purpose……to get paid and my account reinstated. And unless that happened, I wanted others to be aware about that as well. I never wanted to come in here and start a "hate" thread against VS and that's what my original thread turned into. I don't believe VS had my GFY account killed, nor will it be killed again unless I violate any GFY rules. Maybe not everyone here knows the facts and what exactly went down, but the day my account got killed several people on here warned me that the thread would get locked, then when it did, I tried restarting it 3 times within about an hour (frustrated) and people began warning me to stop that for the account would be at risk of getting killed and it did. I guess blame that on me for not following GFY's rules. In any case, GFY reinstated my account again and everything is cool there.

I'm not "selling out" to VS, I'm just doing what feels right to me and reversing any remaining negativity against VS. When I honestly ask myself...do I think this situation will happen again to another webmaster.....my answer is NO! When I honestly ask myself....do I think they will not continue to pay webmasters for life.....YES! I genuinely believe they are a good company....my situation was isolated and very rare and VS will probably be extra sensitive if a similar situation ever arises. So with all that said....I think they are an excellent company to do business with now. Again, that's not selling out....that's just what I believe. This was a long, drawn out story, but it ends with me being paid 100% and my account active for life. How can I sit here and complain about that? I've told everyone many times....I truly am a mellow guy and did not come in here to be an active negative hot head poster. My post was to help rectify my situation with VS which is done and to make sure everything was safe for other webmasters which it absolutely is. Mission accomplished, put it to rest guys. To everyone not freaking out with negativity, thank you again for your continued support!

I agree completely. Their reversal on this issue does not change the fact that they tried to steal from an affiliate and only relented when they were faced with a huge backlash. I do not want to have to rely on threads on GFY to get paid. I will not promote a company that has such a low regard for affiliates.

Well, one last bump before this thread goes to the archives and vs can act like nothing happened. In 2 months from now they will be throwing parties at conventions and everyone will be drinking free beers with those thieves.

This thread will go in history as one of the most sad and pathetic threads ever on gfy as far as im concerned. Its a perfect example of how this industry works and its a good way to see who's who. It shows a lot about a lot of people.

So, the situation is completely resolved and the result is a "victory" for the GFY mob.

But, the true nature of the GFY mob is revealed - the victory is not good enough, the fact that guy gets his money and company reverses decision isn't satisfactory, now the mob is out for blood. The mob is greedy and arrogant - like a crusading army with bloodlust out to rape and pillage after the battle - a narcissistic self-serving ego circle jerk.

Moral of the story is, whether you bow to the pressure of the mob or not, the drama-whores, the industry crusaders, will never be satisfied, they'll leave behind scorched earth and move onto the next target.

I used to wear the crusader flag quite a bit myself and held the scorched earth beliefs dear, but it never really settled anything, it hurt my business, it hurt everyone around me. I have found that working with people and attempting to get the better good for all far more advantageous. Not only for everyone here and around me but for my own well being in this business and for that matter my state of mind.
