Snowed here last week too. Some of it is still on the ground as it's been below freezing so far every day. Before that for a couple of weeks it really looked as though spring was here. But it wasn't... as I suspected. Manitoba winters don't let go lightly.
But take heart. It won't be long now. And this winter, no matter how persistant it seems to be, has nothing, and I mean NOTHING, on last winter. 2013-14 winter was without a doubt the most viscious and long winter in a good 40 years here. This year has been a cakewalk compared to that.
My favourite time of year, really. Temps warming up, no bugs, no MOSQUITOES, and we're on the doorstep of a good 6 months of generally nice weather.

we didn't get as much snow here in eastern ontario as we did last winter but temperature wise it seemed similar.
you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..

weird.. strongest winter in over 40 years? while other areas are reporting record breaking temperatures?

i wonder what it all means
It means that back in the 70's we had one or two vicious winters, one in particular for sure that lasted way past the usual start to spring and was insanely cold for long stretches. Then roughly 40 years later we had another one... the one last year.
This year by comparison was, well like I said, a cakewalk. Hardly any snow really, maybe a foot and a half to 2 ft at most spread out over the entire winter. For here that's basically nothing.
The winters in Manitoba and NW Ontario don't seem to care much about any warming trends, global or otherwise. Our winters always just do what they do regardless of what's going on in other parts of N america.
I'll say this about our winters though... since the air here is super dry in winter we tend to get mostly light powdery snow that is easy to shovel, as opposed to down east or out west where large dumpings of wet heavy snow exists.
Its Central, I'm about 20 minutes away from Sandy Hook. I honestly never spoke to someone with a "Jersey" accent, I dont think they exist here in the central/north

I don't know that it's the "Jersey" accent that they portray on TV - but North definitely has an accent. I don't know about central - I don't think they do. Never talked to many people from there, but North I've talked to lots of dudes and they all sound like NYers pretty much. Different attitude than NYers but accent similar.
I have no idea what I sound like. I'm a chameleon.

Haha yea I was about to say North Jersey its like NY but slightly toned down...it really depends on how close to the city you live and the area...if its suburb or more like jersey city/newark (no thanks!)

They still have speakeasies in NJ?
Years ago we went back to visit my step-father's family. In the middle of some damn marsh we find his uncle. He's in a hurry to get back to town, as he needs to see his bookie to bet on some horse race.
We're going by some cracker box house and he yells, STOP! Says the place is a speakeasy, as it's daylight and the porch light is on. Go in and there's a mini bar; a 6 pack of beer and bottles of gin, vodka and bourbon (1 each).
I know when I die, the Devil is telling me I'm being sent to New jersey.
