Yeah, I don't think an "honest" portrait has anything to do with whether a girl is wearing makeup or not.
The concept of looking for the true person captured in a moment of time by a photographer would require that photographer to spend many days (maybe even weeks) taking photos of a subject at all times of the day and night.
And then carefully looking at all those photos to find "the one" that really captures their essence.
Not an easy thing to do. Which is why there are only a handful of iconic photographers like that in history. The kind of guys who sell numbered prints of their photos.
Setting up a camera on a tripod and taking a bunch of head shots of porn stars real quick...that's not going to show them in that manner.
I guess the way this was presented as "an honest look" was an unfortunate description to say the least. But it has NOTHING to do with wearing makeup or not.
