You're right though, things like this can come up out of literally nothing. Everyone is under the impression they're tough. A lot of people seem to have a higher sense of entitlement these days than ever before.
You had to know your initial comment to the guy wasn't going to sit well with a clownshoe like him, so no one including yourself can be surprised by the guy's reaction. You handled it though, and you're still here. That's something.
