What's the best battle tank ?

I don't think that there is such solid answer for that. There are things like the battlefield environment, opponent, armament, protection, supply situation, service situation, need for service, etc. Most of those aren't constant.
There might be some ultimate tank in terms armament, protection and speed, but then there is one nut on the road that gets into the engine and kaput. Or needs so fucking much service that it is more time at workshop than on battlefield.Comment

I owned a Tiger tank back in the day. Fuck German engineering, that thing was a gas guzzler.Promote Wildmatch, ImLive, Sexier.com, and more!!

For my heart: German Leopard II (A5) simply because it looks really cool. Russian T90 because it looks like a "proper" old-school cool MBT. And of course the PL-01 MBT from Poland because it looks like something Batman would use.
For my head: Best ever (modern/GEN3) MBT is without a doubt the British Challenger 2 (FV4034) simply because the only thing that has ever killed one in battle is another Challenger 2. It's gun and armor and all-round battlefield capabilities place it far and away above the American M1A2 Abrams. In one verified battlefield incident a British Challenger 2 was hit by multiple grenades, 14 (fourteen!) RPG hits and even took a MILAN anti-tank missile in it's stride. The crew remained safe inside, the Tank was recovered, repaired and back in operation 6hrs later. In another MOD reported incident a Challenger 2 near Basra was hit by a total of 70 (seventy! good googly moogly..) RPG and lived to fight another day. The British Challenger 2 is basically a Titan, at this moment in time nothing comes even close.

This.. I think with modern ammo that any modern tank hitting another modern tank, the tank being hit would lose. It's not really a case of WW2 where a good tank crew could deflect another tanks rounds by the position of the tank. Today the armor is good only against other forms of lessor weapons, but not good aginst other modern tanks. In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment

so what qualities matter for a tank crew ?
(i'm not totally agree with this theory, of course the crew matters, but if your fire rate and if the time that you need to target efficiently an ennemy is lower, it's just easier to win a battle)Comment

Well, the protection has evolved too: better static protection, better active protection (counter blast) and better.. well, another active protection; a gun that shoots incoming tank rounds, "rpg" rounds and anti-tank missiles.This.. I don't even know how you deal with that latter active protection, besidess with anti-tank mines, shooting the active protection into pieces with smaller calibers, or shooting it with such big gun that counter shooting does nada. And of course shooting with multiple "rounds" like with cluster bomb, but for tanks. With regular cluster bombs you might also destroy the active protection and then followed by some other measure to destroy the tank itself. Well, I guess I know few ways, but battle tested ways is another issue.Comment

It reminded me of a stealth version of an Israeli Merkava (IV) when I first seen a pic of it. But the whole Tank is still just a concept so we'd really need a production model to see if everything is legit. They do say it will carry 45 rounds (mixed) and... that doesn't seem enough. I'd of thought 60+ (it's auto-loader/fire control system has a fire rate of 6 rounds a minute so they'd be out of ammo pretty fast in a battle)but with it being so compact I can understand them not wanting to squeeze more in.Comment

There certainly is a best overall tank.pretty sure M1A2 is it.

The sound isn't problem in that position any more than it is for the top guy. The serious bang happens at the end of the barrel when there is sonic boom. There certainly is a best overall tank.pretty sure M1A2 is it.

France and Germany have decided to work on "Leopard 3" tank as an answer to Russian T-14 "Armata"
According to Die Welt, German intelligence consider that on the streets of Moscow there prototypes of Armata, which needs a few years of further development based on the results of testing in the army. After that Russia will get 2000 units of the highest level tanks.Obey the CowgodComment
