Well, the protection has evolved too: better static protection, better active protection (counter blast) and better.. well, another active protection; a gun that shoots incoming tank rounds, "rpg" rounds and anti-tank missiles.

I don't even know how you deal with that latter active protection, besidess with anti-tank mines, shooting the active protection into pieces with smaller calibers, or shooting it with such big gun that counter shooting does nada. And of course shooting with multiple "rounds" like with cluster bomb, but for tanks. With regular cluster bombs you might also destroy the active protection and then followed by some other measure to destroy the tank itself. Well, I guess I know few ways, but battle tested ways is another issue.
