The "Kentucky Rifle" was the original sniper gun powder firearm and used extensively by in essence the original "snipers" in that conflict.

But at the same time much of the war was fought face-to-face, muzzle-to-muzzle on the open battlefield.

There is a lot of awesome history there... the Scots-Irish hicks really tore the other side up with their rifles and tactics and were among the first to use true guerrilla tactics in that era.

No doubt but just saying as a historical footnote that warfare changed dramatically as a result of the rifle in combination with guerrilla style tactics. In a sense, "The Patriot" draws some of its quasi historical references from that rifle regiment.

german soldiers during ww2 were just following orders as well, one could argue that there were germans who did not take part in the concentration camps and for the most part, were "just following orders"...they "killed when they had to" and did it "for ""safety"" of the motherland" or whatever...a valid point from the perspective of the one doing the attacking who followed the rules of war...

but when you are on the receiving side of the invasion, you in fact see the troops as exactly where they want to be, military service in the USA is not mandatory and the career they picked is widely known for invading other countries left and right...just like alquaida is well known for blowing stuff up...

When you join the military, you take an oath. You follow orders. In the UCMJ, there is text that protects a soldier from prosecution for not following orders that the soldier deems immoral, the Officer giving that order can be charged with an Article 133.

and the german soldiers had the same code/oath and you had UCMJ and they had some other crappy abbreviation and would be charged with article XXX ...alquaida has an "oath" as well and probably some abbreviation too and article xyz...having a code or abbreviations and articles does not justify terrorism

This is going to sound stupid as hell but what country were you in? The US has a pretty violent history. I totally agree that we leave our borders with military intent way to often. I would just like to read what our reason was if we had one.
