Currently, the FAA bans commercial use of drones. Companies need a special exemption to operate them and so far the FAA has only issued approvals for 11 companies. I highly doubt Manwin is one of the 7 television and film companies that got approved.
U.S. OK's more commercial drone use as Congress probes risks
(Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday granted four more companies exemptions to use drones commercially, further opening the airspace to unmanned aircraft even as lawmakers raised questions about the risks.
Trimble Navigation Ltd, VDOS Global LLC, Clayco Inc and Woolpert Inc said in their petitions to the FAA that they would operate drones weighing less than 55 pounds (25 kg) and keep them within view at all times.
The approvals broaden the uses of commercial drones to include aerial surveying, construction site monitoring and oil rig flare stack inspections. No one gives a shit about the FAA regulations, they're not law. At least that's what I am seeing.
When there's an FAA police coming around confiscating peoples' copters, then we shall see.
I have been paid to shoot a number of things already. I know of a few others here in my medium sized city doing the same thing. So long as you're not flying through the airport, no one seems to care (or even know the regulations themself).Comment
