Surprisingly, other weapons of choice and availability are generally a lot less effective than guns. If someone attacks you with a knife, you have a much better chance of surviving than you have if someone attacks you with a gun.

To kill someone with a knife requires you to be very close to the person, as well as be fairly strong, competent or just plain lucky (bones will stop a knife quite a bit more easily than they will stop a bullet).
Also, keep in mind that running from someone with a knife will have a rather higher success rate than running from someone with a gun./(bb|[^b]{2})/Comment

Unless someone is particularly a good shot, hitting a running and dodging target is very difficult. Specially with a handgun. Plus typically when you see someone pulling on you bolt. Now a knife on the other hand is a very personal weapon. One used very up close and without much reaction time. I would also reason that more people would be willing to grapple a gun being pulled out over a doing the same with a knife.Comment

I posted those links to note that those things happened, as well as implying that the outcome with knives would most likely have been a different one. If the fact that wikipedia is edited by users makes you doubt whether the Virgina Tech massacre actually happened, or whether guns were used... well, if that is the case, you're an idiot. If not, your doubts with regards to the veracity of Wikipedia are unrelated to the issue at hand.
As for the crusades, well yes, back before guns existed, armies of thousands of people successfully used bladed weapons to kill thousands of other people. The fact that more people died in relatively recent wars (WWI, WWII) which were fought, among other weapons, with guns, only reinforces the point I am making.
...but what the hell am I doing. It's a beautiful day, and I am wasting my time on idiots who apparently honestly believe knives are more effective weapons than guns, failing to realize that if that were the case, guns would be pointless in the first place

When they were talking about this on the news.A lot of the knives that they were showing were every day kitchen knives so god knows how they are gonna stop people from carrying these. Our goverment bring out ban after ban which never works. They are all a waste of time and its a front to show the people of Great Britian that they care or are doing something about it. Never doubted that guns were not used in such crimes. Just hate people running to wiki for their opinions and then quoting them as if they are gospel. Also never said knives were more effective than guns. Both of which really questions your comprehension abilities while reading. The only thing I brought up was that it is hard to hit a moving target with a hand gun. Also please note that at all three links you posted most did not flea and in one people were told to stay in place by the school. Hiding under ones desk when facing a nutcase with a gun is about as effective as hiding in a closet when facing a nutcase with a butcher knife. Both would be highly fucking stupid.

Pretty funny for you to say that sitting over in the USA. Take a walk through any of the tough London streets and see if your attitude changes. Knife crime in our country is a serious problem, just like gun crime is a serious problem in the USA. The UK is addressing our situation unlike the USA who will never upset the big gun companies.
I'm not gonna go and say Guns should be banned or whatever. Responsible gun owners don't kill people, for them its a hobby. The same can't be said for knives. Anyone who carries a knife on the streets is intending to use it if needed. There is no sport as far as I'm aware that people need to carry knives. You can't get a license to have a big ass knife on you at all times. Young people carrying knifes are more dangerous the responsible gun owners.Comment

Yep you right the youngsters do carry knives and it is a problem over here but bans do not work and wont solve this problem. Its the culture that needs to change. The teenagers think it is hip to carry a knife or they carry it because other gangs carry knives and think it will protect them. You look at where all of this is happening and there is nothing for the teenagers to do but hang around in the street. I also see that some of the parents were bought up with the "gang culture" and think it is cool for thier kids to do the same. The culture over here has gone to shit, you go out to a nightclub over here and a accidentally bump into somebody and all they want to do is beat you up, it stupid. It was never this bad when I was a teenager and I dont recall so many stabbings over such stupid thingsComment

I don't think a gun is much worse then a knife anyway. If you get hit in the upper body with either you are likely to die, if you get hit in the leg with either you are likely to be fine - the only thing making guns worse really is the range ;)Comment

Carrying knives in public is already banned, but people under 18 have been getting off with just a warning, so soon they'll be prosecuted instead, seems to make sense. if someones going fishing or whatever and has a reason fair enough, but a ban on carrying them in public without justification is a good thing.Comment
