Adult is not dead yet, but it's clearly agonizing, stop pretending and do something.

    Hey Everyone,

Please, for a minute, stop pretending you have something going on even remotely similar to what it was just about two years ago, and for a second assume the online adult business is not the same anymore; it took a very serious, very real, very scary dive.

Program owners, affiliates, and everyone in between, everyone here pretends that nothing happened, but know and pretend noone noticed.

It's just not the same, some people complained about tube sites for a while, others say it's 'the next tgp', but noone admit their bottom line has been seriously affected in the last 2 years or so, it's surreal, people still say they're doing ok just to -save face-

Tgps sell spots at 4-years-ago prices, traffic brokers keep the same rates, and paysites go for the same membership prices. (content providers seem to be the only ones getting the shaft)

Everyone pretends to be in an utopian paralell reality, while we really should be scared shitless, and discussing about how to get online porn back on its track.

Am i too far off? oh is your business rocking? your program converts 1:50? Discuss.

Whenever a decent new site launches and I push it, it converts great. Maybe the consumers still want to buy, but nobody is giving them what they want. Who knows?

Oh but wait,.. there are now sponsors giving out 10 mins promo videos. I guess it must pay off with those 1:20k ratios..

I promote with up to 5 minute clips.

My ratios are better, all across the board, than the same sites on my gallery traffic.

            These are just some facts.

i think there just needs to be more innovations. on the right side. all the innovators seem to be on the illegal side of things and only hurt the industry.

honestly, i dont buy as much music as i used to. i dont mind waiting a few extra months for movies to come out on directv. i find myself looking for bargains at the grocery store and when i buy all types of goods for that matter... not that i cant afford my normal spending, but i seem to find it more important to have money in the bank than be compulsive and spend money without thought...

the economy has changed, but it is far from dead

tv went thru the same adaption and is now more successful then before, if anything primary producers of content are making more money.

American idol gets 3 times their liciencing fees from product placement specifically becuase they know it is going to be widely distributed on the torrent sites commercial free.

live shows like american idol still have massive market share.

the shift is to pre production revenue streams, or live interaction.

Sites that let their members interact live with their models will thrive while those that don't or simply fake it will find their business model starting to shrink, suffer or completely dry up.

Someone who gets it....the whole model is changing...in the internet age you cant really expect everything to stay the same forever...it just wont happen...how long do you even think the current model will still be viable? how long before the shift begins to eliminate the affiliate model altogether?

the people sitting around crying about "regular" montlhy sales will get left in the dust....the people who are changing the industry and working in ways that continue to be profitable will succeed...this is no secret...i noticed a thread yesterday about why old timers dont post anymore.....many of them are adapting....all the while the complainers sit at GFY looking for someone to blame for why they cant make a buck anymore.....the $$ is still here...most of you just cant see it.

I don't buy any music in stores anymore, but I find myself buying it online on russian websites for a few cents a song. There is a parallell to be done with our industry I believe. Selling recuring memberships at $29.95 a month to consumers who can get most of it for free is probably a business model going down, but delivering quality porn efficiently to end user for a very fair price could have a bright future. We changed the business model of our desktop strippers in January allowing users to buy girls individually rather than selling only recuring memberships and we're doing much more money this way. People come back to buy more, they collect girls and they end up spending more. So who is going to start selling full HD videos for a few cents first?

Just my 2cc on where we're going ;)

Two years ago, it was almost impossible for average surfer to find free full length porn videos. Average surfer doesn`t use p2p ...

One year ago, it was very hard for average surfer to find free full length porn videos. Average surfer doesn`t know forums with rapidshare links ...

Today it`s very easy for average surfer to find free full length porn videos. Google => search for "porn" => in TOP20 there is 4 TGPs, 1 link list, 1 blog, 1 review site, 1 youtube video and 12 tube sites. Each of those tube sites contains thousands of full length porn videos.

Why buy a product when you can get the same product for free ?

Interesting topic here. Innovation is the key, more innovative ideas will lead to more of a demand for your product. Simply offering a movie to download just doesn't do it anymore.

People still buy, I know I do, you just have to niche.

The web is flooded with free movies of a "hot-slutty-white-girl-getting-fucked" ZZzzzzz.
Sell something different and charge for it and you should have no problem making money. People who crave for a niche will pay anything to get the newest and latest of it.

                                        Innovation, No BS, Exclusive Content

I think those are the 3 key factors to a sites success. But then, what the hell do I know? I have been in biz for 7 years and just about to open first pay site... However, I am seriously thinking about not making it a membership site but let people pay as they go. Pick the content they want and let them pay for it... I also plan a number of other innovations... but will keep those in R&D for now...

What do you guys think about PPV only sites?

Online porn is basically free to most people these days, I don't see why people here don't understand that. Sure, some people still buy, but the industry is obviously hurting from all the free shit. Just look at the CD and DVD markets... same thing...

Someone once posted a picture of bottled water as an argument that people buy something that is free. Well that argument doesn't work because Bottled Water is much better than free tap water, mainly because it doesn't have any of the flouride and bullshit in it. But free porn videos are no different from bought porn videos. You can get free HD videos all fucking day long online now... so why pay?

If what you do is unique you have a much better chance of doing well. Also if your operating costs aren't insane you can weather the lean times. I think there are consumers who like the monthly model and those who dont. Cant lump all of them in one group.

My site has grown and so has my traffic. I have evolved and use a blog/tube hybrid.

Please, for a minute, stop pretending you have something going on even remotely similar to what it was just about two years ago, and for a second assume the online adult business is not the same anymore; it took a very serious, very real, very scary dive.
                                                Really toots?

Funny. My sales have grown every year. My ratios have not dropped off from 1:6.

Guess someone forget to tell my members, and customers about adult being in the toilet eh chief?

Delivering quality product in a specific niche is a good way to do business.

My earnings have grown steadily month to month over the last 2 years.

Not really a reflection of the industry at all, but even 4 years ago I didn't see 1:50 or 1:100 ratios on any program... Yes porn is a tough sell these days, so sharpen your sales skills.

I make way more then I did two years ago. I guess I am lieing. Why is it hard to believe that? Just because you have problems. Sure I know a lot more now. Work with better people. I work more hours..... That is why I make more.
I remember when I got 10 sales on thehun last year and someone called me a lier LOL. I am sure if you do the same exact thing as you did two years ago then you would probably be doing less. If that is what you mean then I would agree
