Like to see an eclectic mix. Some pop, some rock, some oldies 60s 70s 80s 90s. Plus the standard dj type stuff.

Suggestion... Karaoke by the pool at night?

we're also going to be turning down the volume a couple of notches so we won't have to yell at eachother.

There is no possible way to play it any better than we did. The crowd that shows for this convention is one of the hardest to play and please that I have ever done. You have people from ages 18 all the way to their 60's and 70's showing up. It is near impossible.

We pull it off every year somehow, but I dare you to play country music or metal for any length of time until the xbiz staff phones are blowing up in an outrage. Hell, we played classic rock for about 45 minutes and the young people at the show (which is the overall majority) damn near had conniption fits and drowned in the pool. You can't play music that the majority of the party doesn't want to hear.

Sorry, thats just the way that parties are. If you want to please everyone you play

one rap, one electronic, one metal, one country, one polka, one trance, one riverdance, one classical, one pop, one rock, one r&b, and REPEAT this order all day. That is the only way to be fair. But let me tell you, this will ruin your party atmosphere. You have to let the DJs do what they do. Read the crowd. The day has a progression, from morning into the evening. There are certain things that need to get played at certain times. Etc. Etc.

Whoever is the DJ this year, I really feel for them. It is NOT an easy party to play.

I would suggest that you do not allow the Hard Rock to charge you for their DJ or bring one in. They do not have the music you want, no way, and they will play "CLUB" music all day long.

The DJ you are looking for doesn't exist unless you want to get a wedding DJ who will crap all over your party and sound like shit. Or some crappy strip club DJ.

I would personally suggest that you ask KROSH to do it. He is the best DJ in adult in my opinion.

In my professional opinon for the last two shows I've been responsible for the music and it's gone off without a hitch every year. We are complimented every year by tons of people that attend the show on how diverse and all encompassing we are musically. This year as you know I am retired, but if you want me to help out with the format I can help you. I've formatted parties for 15 years, it's what I do.

                      I just read this thread

A1R3K - thank you for the kind words man -

I have to agree with you though i thought that we played a HUGE mix of music at the show but the volume was a bit loud. The reason for that was that we in the DJ booth could not hear how loud it was out there and the sound guys should have controlled that.

No matter how hard you try, you can not make everyone happy all the time - People ask for "good" music .. that is a subjective word.
My response to someone that asks me to play good music is ... "where is it that you work? when they tell me I ask them have you ever seen me at your place of employment telling you how to do your job?
