Joomla for a paysite CMS?? Anyone using it?

I had been suggested to look into joomla as it supposedly a very good cms and it's free. But I was also told that it doesn't do automatic updates. Is anyone aware of any plug ins that can help automate the updates? And in general, does anyone use joomla for a paysite?

Just trying to find some CMS that can do more than our current Sitedepth.

    Suggestions or comments anyone?

Moving to open source from a custom solution means you're either going to be taking on your own coding staff, or you wish you would have.

Do you have any really compelling reasons to drop SiteDepth?

i really don't have much technical knowledge like that to discuss codes and stuff like that, but i know what kind of things the CMS should be capable of doing.

I shrugged when a friend suggested that I look into joomla, but decided to see what it's all about anyways.

Sitedepth is alright, but kinda useless for a multimodel site and has very few variables for thumb sizes and importing newest updates into the tour for display.

I was considering MAS, but it's quite pricey and still likely not able to do everything one might want.

actually, sitedepth DOES have all that

I just went through a bunch of emails from support about that EXACT issue

it supports multiple thumbnails with multiple sizes in the tour, and I believe it also supports multiple trailers also

as for multimodel, it has a model directory also?

edit: also, alfredo is REALLY cool about modifications if you need them, he is fast and cheap and can do just about anything

oh that's nice, thanks for the suggestion.

I was specifically looking for a feature that would allow me to automatically update the tour with one main large pic of the set, a few smaller thumbs for previews and the set description (bonus if that description is separate and different from the description in members area).

Same would apply for videos, can be either thumb previews or a short trailer

it would be lovely if it had model directory with a dedicated model page where you can have the traditional one main large pic, a description about the model/bio, thumbs/links to all her sets and videos. At least that for the basics. Commentary and such would be a bonus.

It would also be very helpful if there was a separate profile page that can be used on a multimodel tour page with just the basic preview thumbs, main pic and intro. Manually adding each new model is not much fun

yeah, I am sure many other sitedepth users would want a piece of that too!

Joomla is a generic CMS. It would be a horrible candidate for a paysite. Sitedepth will work for simple solo sites. Talk to Omar over there he's cool. Support is good. Other ones you might look into are Carma and ElevatedX. They are much more expensive. You might also want to look into a custom option. Hit me up if you need one or would like to discuss it more. I develop custom CMS solutions on a daily basis almost.

Thanks for your input Brandon. DO you develop entire CMSs or more like plug ins to whatever the user is using already?

I know it would be hard to quote, but roughly how much is it for a custom CMS/plug in capable of what SD is able to do plus a few more features like i have mentioned above? A few search options and a rating system like MAS has would be a very nice bonus too. However I imagine it is a really massive job to do and very pricey.

I build systems from scratch based on what people need. I can usually extract information from databases by reverse engineering though. It's fully custom to what you need so for all intents and purposes, it does everything you want and is the easiest to maintain since it's specifically designed around your workflow. Source code is included (not for resale though). It's hard to quote since I don't have a good idea of what you need but if you want to hit me up on ICQ and explain briefly what you need I can give you a general ballpark.

Why not just pay little O (omar) the $150-300 for him to custom modify your script?

thanks for the bumps, guys. Sitedepth with some customization would be a killer CMS!

Eva, check out the system in my sig. It's perfect for a multi-model site and can do whatever sized thumbs and layout you want.

                                                  Spend you some brain.
