But there's a difference here, and a critical one. The cartels are bandits, pure and simple. Not one of them would die for the drugs they deal if they had a choice, and not one would sacrifice their lives so the cartel could live. ISIS/ISIL/IS/The Terrorist State are by contrast an ideological organisation, one for whom death in the service of the cult is a major part of the reason to join. Not all, but a substantial number - dare I say even most of them - would die for their cause.
It is quite literally the difference between people who kill for money versus people who kill for religion. One is substantially more terrifying than the other, simply for the cause of their psychopathic behaviour.
