This is likely not a very nationally publicized event but is shows how the Right Wing conservatives keep trying to dumb down our nations schools. In Texas they have been rather successful by white washing the history books and now they were recently trying to do the same in Colorado.
The Republican National Committee wasn't happy with a new History course being taught in CO, schools for advanced students, so they went to war and managed to secure a 3-2 conservative majority on the school board of Jefferson County whom then went on to approve a new resolution to whitewash the history class course.
They attempted to push a pro American agenda pushing a new agenda "promote citizenship, patriotism, essentials and benefits of the free enterprise system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights.” While downplaying civil disobedience and trying to turn students into good little followers.
The students and teachers decided not to be good little brainwashed worker bees and instead organized large scale call outs, sick outs and walk outs. They did this to the point schools actually had to shut down.
In the end, the school board caved due to pressure from the students, teachers and parents forcing the concertive school board majority to due away with their whitewashed history lessons..
Seems these ignorant right wingers seem to have forgotten this country and many of it's greatest achievements came by civil disobedience. Such as this very case..
