Oh let's get real Putin still thinks Russia is the USSR.. Hence why he tries to control all the ex soviet states and we get things like the current Ukraine war.
The USSR was "invited" because their little dictator was about to be over thrown by the uprising that was about to oust their puppet govt. Sound likes Syria.....
The best part was after the USSR showed up they ousted their puppet dictator anyway and caused a full on uprising which helped cause the fall of the USSR, partially at the hands of the up and coming bin Laden as he was one of the commanders that defeated the soviet troops.
