Or you could install Classic Shell for free and have PCs that boot much faster than with windows 7, perform better with similar specs, and are more secure all while having the windows 7 menus and style.Still buying windows 7 computers for all my customers . I was dragged kicking and screaming into 2014 (from XP) but I've gotten used to it now. Once you ignore the "full screen" apps and learn the keyboard shortcuts (eg Windows-D goes to Desktop) it's basically the same old Windows underneath.Comment

It was done because Microsoft thinks (rightfully so) that people are stupid.
They figured that if they could get one OS that worked on the desktop, tablets, and phones then these stupid people would only have to learn 1 OS to use all the devices they would put the POS on...well...not so much after all. FAILComment

it does. its the same kernel with less added to it. Not MS fault you dont know how to handle the OS. I even have win 8.1 on a 8year old Lenovo Labtop, running without any problems.
95% of the problems people have with the OS, is all the crap they install on it + shitty lowend consumer hardware + Ignorance.Comment

Windows 8.1 isn't bad at all.
On my desktops and laptops I am all running 7. However, on my Microsoft Surface I am running 8.1 and it's perfect. Windows 8 is meant more for a tablet than a PC or even a laptop. My Surface is a bit of both.
M$ is trying to make one system for both tablets and PCs. They should still make the traditional Windows (Windows 7) and then make a new system and call it "Titles" for Tablets. Let Laptop people choose between the two.Herschel Savage
