Tech Restoring a failing Micro SD card?

I have a failing Micro SD card (2GB) that I use in my phone.

It has recently started misbehaving, and even when I put it in the adaptor, and place it in my computer, it reads half the data, then fails / disappears...

I have a brand new 4GB on order from Amazon, but when it arrives I would *like* to copy the data over to the new one... Is thee anything I can do to prepare the old one to work for a few moments?

Just so I can save the data to move across? If it were a standard Hardrive, I'd stick it the fridge for a bit... But what is the trick for a micro SD card?

    Thanks in advance

Those cards are a pain in the ass. Usually its the controller for memory that take a shit. I know you heart shits so here is a couple links but I would start with some freeware stuff first.

You'll need a usb card reader most likely.

download.com has a ton of utilities for this. I would start with those and then and only then maybe go with these guys. http://www.z-a-recovery.com/

They have some tools and pointers but again most of the time it's a controller issue and barring a dump (I know your still with me) from the actual memory its kind of a waste. (Three euphemisms, boom!) Or maybe that's four. I dunno.

You can buy an 8gb card for like $4. Get a new one.

As long as it's still functioning, you should be able to pull from it.

Is the one in your phone a Samsung? The only SD cards I've ever had fail on me were Samsung.

Make regular backups from the card to a PC.

Good luck recovering once a drive/card is fried ...

I would not risk using it.

Copy the data you have and plug the new one in.

I have had a few fail.

              A tip:

Set up a dropbox account and set it so it backs up any pics you take as you take them. That way if the card fails you still have the pics safe.

Yes... It is indeed a 'Scamsung'...

Thing is that I only use it for a few pics here and there, and to hold my (99p) ringtone...

But its annoying that I had diagnose it myself, and the 2 little boys at shop that sold me the phone, appear to think I'm utterly stupid, and lie to my face...

But I guess thats a diff thread... lol

Samsung must buy the "seconds" from whoever makes them. I got 3 64gb ones and had one fail with a clients wedding ceremony on it. I used three cards that day and the one I used for the ceremony only, the important one, the Samsung?failed.
