Hmmm...not feelin' most of the watches listed in this threat save a few.

IWC hands down. The 3714 (which I wear regularly) is nice (you can pick one up for $5K-6K). The Big Pilot is a Big Baller watch. People who "know" watches will spot it a mile away and throw you compliments.

I like most Rolexes, but 90% of used car salesman rock Rolexes. If you are going to go Rolex, and least go vintage, pre-1970.

If that's what it's about for you, then you aren't a watch person (nevermind that a Movado will never impress anyone).

Retails for only 2200.00 Can buy it for 1300.00 Tungsten Carbide and it wont scratch.

Lets be frank here. Luxury is anything over say 500.00 maybe less.
Do you know why luxury watches cost so much? Hint: It isn't the brand name or a recognizeable style... Movados are basically mass produced and the movements are nothing special. They make most their money selling "cobranded" watches for companies like Tommy Hilfigure and Lacoste.

                  Two of my favorite brands.
Two of my favorites as well, Audemars are amazing

Considering the skeletal ones run 6 figures though, I doubt I would ever buy one even if I had the cash.

My daily wearer is a Tag Heuer which I love... Not too fancy but it is on the higher end of the Tag line.

Next year I will buy something higher end. Right now it's a toss up between a big Breitling Adventurer with tons of diamonds, and a skeletal Corum in red gold.

A watch is the only piece of jewelery a man can really wear... It should be nice

Once you do some research though, you find that it's not just something that tells time. Many watches are works of art in their own right, or scientific wonders. Any automatic chronograph movement impresses the hell out of me, especially when you see how small all the pieces are, and find out that they were handmade and this watch took one guy 6+ months to build...

                                        What is a luxury anyway?

I recently tried on a £5000 diamond studded Breitling in Harrods.

It was a very unique watch and they seem to stock Breitling above everything else.

with watches, luxury has nothing to do with the lame ass diamonds all over it... it's all about the movment ;)

Seiko just came up with the biggest new movement technology since they invented the quartz watch 40+ years ago.

It's called Spring Drive.. the second hand doesn't tick, it sweeps. First watch ever to do this... http://www.seikospringdrive.com/flash.html?soundOn=0

                                              They start at around $3500

This one here is designed to be able to be worn during space walks, LOL

Those watches are quite ugly in my opinion. Cool movement though I will give them that.

for me it is also the uniqueness of each watch. years ago i bought a swiss army watch onboard alitalia flight to milan, it was plain dial leather band with also one hand for 24 hr GMT. lost it last year ironically also while traveling in europe. it wasnt expensive but it was pretty special.. now i am looking at IWC or MontBlanc.. i am not a Rolex kinda guy.

iwc is a great choice... i'd stay away from montblanc (they should stick to pens imo)

Me neither, I don't get why they are synonyms with "luxury watch", IMO Rolexes are for 1980s stockbrokers...

I love it, we have tons of watch lovers on this board.

Obviously people with money know about unique and luxury timepieces!

In many cases people who either don't care or don't know about luxury/unique timepieces cannot tell between a 500$ watch or a 100k$ watch.

You have to have the desire, the money and the appreciation for a unique timepiece.

I am debating between buying this from Michael from www.uniquemechanics.com tell me what you think, this piece is super luxurious and is limited to 33 pieces in the world 60k.

The automatic broke after like 4 months wearing it (did have warranty so repairing was free but still its rediculous for a new watch) and now some of the black filling in the numbers on that rotation thing are gone lol... and i dont even have this one a year yet.. i think i barely got it 6 months but i dont really remember when i got it. Also the automatic is far from accurate with temperature changes. Working my way to a rolex or breitling though ;)
