Harley owners: loud pipes let me know who to cut off in traffic

If you broke my mirror, kicked my door or threw anything at my car I would be on the phone to the cops and follow you until they showed up.Like you'd have the balls.
As far as the wannabe celeb guy is concerned, prople like you frequently end up with broken side view mirrors and nice boot prints in their door.
We don't wear steel boots for nothing. Oh yeah, beware of guys that carry old spark plugs in their pockets. Windshields are not as strong as you might think.
There is no reason for such actions. I have been riding bikes for 20+ years and never have had to do anything like that.
I ride like cars don't see me. I don't put myself in a position where they can cut me off, etc. Don't blame cars because you are not aware of what is around you.

You don't know what the fuck you are talking about. My major wreck was with a car that I saw, that I flashed my high beams at, and slowed slightly "just in case."If you broke my mirror, kicked my door or threw anything at my car I would be on the phone to the cops and follow you until they showed up.

Well, that did not help because the punk did not see me and the only reason he stopped (thereby blocking my avenue of escape) was because his little brother, the passenger, yelled at him to "watch out."
Of course he did not know what he was watching out for until I crashed into his rear quarter panel.
Stick to Photoshop or something you know about.Comment

You can't avoid everything but it is our responsibility to keep track of the cars. Not the cars to watch for us. As you would agree.. most guys on bikes do not look at what is around them.. they think they are cool and everyone is looking at how cool they are on their harley, rice rocket, whatever.
I was in an accident in 1989 and was 10 minutes away from death when I got to the hospital. I broke 4 ribs.. one went through my left lung, cracked skull, bruised hip, broken wrist, ankle, fingers, toes, etc. The guy ran a stop sign and I had no place to go. 90% of the time we can avoid a situation 10% we can't and in the 10% we can't you wouldn't have time to kick a mirror or boot a door.icq 1904905Comment

When I think of what baddog must have been like back in "his riding days" this is the only thing that pops into my head and my buttcheeks clinch

but you do agree there is a striking look alike between you and glen right?
all jokes and bullshit and name calling aside there's no doubt in my mind you have ridden more hours, still ride more hours, than I do at this point in my life.... Ive slowed down a shitload on riding street because people do not watch for you.. mainly I put around the neighborhood on 1 wheel and 1 in the air now or at a parking lot on 1 wheel...
but I thought this was a bash fest for fun?
as RK said Can't we all just get along...Comment

Don't get me wrong buddy.. I used to race Motocross (when I was, heu, younger..) and I always respected other people by NOT riding my "noisy" bike around neighborhoods. Only at private race tracks.Like you'd have the balls.

Now when I'll get a street bike, of course that will be a Harley, what else, (I really love the Sportster), but not with Straight Pipes.... What's the point about having people hearing you coming from 3 blocks in the middle of the night ???
As far as my balls are concerned, don't be affraid, I got some, not as big as Lightspeed Bob's ones though

I think being respectful with loud noise at 3 AM is common courtesy if it is coming from a bike a car or music, but during the day and on the road how long do you think is that bike noise going to bother before it speeds away from you. Yeah it might scare you a split second but a long honk could do that too

My neighborhood has a biker bar that attracts a lot of Harley riders and the sound never bothers me, but at least once every couple days a pack of kids on ricers goes blasting through the area, none of them wearing helmets, most in short pants, laying on the throttle and racing from red light to red light, sounding like an super amplified swarm of locusts.
I'd much rather hear the low rumble than that annoying high pitched whine those sport bikes put out.Comment

I completely disagree with that. Sorry. And thankfully the insurance provider here where I am says that it absolutely IS the responsibility of drivers to watch out for bikers. It's their responsibility to watch they don't hit other vehicles, well a motorcycle is a licensed vehicle.
It's also equally the responsibility of the rider to watch for other traffic too, so you're correct there. But no way are car/truck/van drivers absolved from having to look out for bikers.Promote Wildmatch, ImLive, Sexier.com, and more!!

as a motorcyclist, the biggest enjoyment i have riding is taking complete control.
i assume responsibility for the driver who cuts me off due to loudness level of my exhaust.
either that or the insurance company pays the payout to my beneficiaryComment

I have no idea what you mean by "that's after the fact"
Fact is, watching out for other traffic on the road be it a car or a motorcycle is very much before the fact (assuming by "the fact" you mean a motor vehicle accident or collision).
You may think you assume responsibility for a driver cutting you off (for any reason) but I'll bet you dollars to donuts your insurance provider disagrees with you. I know mine definitely does. It is the vehicle that changes direction the most in such a collision that is at fault. Some idiot cutting you off and wiping you out because he doesn't like the sound of your pipes definitely is the one who would be responsible, I don't know how any right-thinking person would see it any other way.
Payout on it could definitely be paid to your beneficiary though, absolutely. It's definitely happened, way too many times in fact.Promote Wildmatch, ImLive, Sexier.com, and more!!

after the fact= accident has happened.
at that point the insurance company can say all day long how drivers HAVE to watch out for riders, hell, they can run commercials on the tele.
but then we still have the author of this thread and the topic & everyone who agrees with it eh.Comment
