Don't drink beer on any London transport anymore

Nearly the first thing Boris has done is ban alcohol on public transport in London starting June 1. In actual terms I think that is a fairly good rule but how exactly that is going to be policed is the laughable bit. Maybe we will suddenly have a bunch of new police and guards on trains by the end of the month.

The chances of getting stopped while doing that are probably about as high.

Probably the same way they do it in other cities...by maintaining the same police presence but now giving out big tickets. That will eventually stop people.

Our buses (for the most part) only have a driver not a conductor or a second 'official' person. So, if there is a drunk person on a bus what is that bus driver to do? I can see a lot of chaos. Again, don't disagree with the rule but I think those that cause trouble with drink on public transport aren't going to go quietly and there aren't going to be the enforcement officers (transport police, etc) around to do anything about it and especially not in one month's time.

Yeah I remember going to London and noticing a bunch with open beer cans chugging it in the tube... thought it was weird at first, but then again you can stroll wherever you want in Wien with the drink you bought at a bar! Gotta love you guys in the UK and EU! I think it'll be better for everyone in the long run though.

Only if you don't smoke or drink. Which actually, I don't do so maybe I should just be happy about things.

Even after nearly 12 years living here, every time I see somebody buy a beer at a movie theater I get that bit from Pulp Fiction playing in my head.

Laws relating to drinking and smoking are on a roll here. Smoking with children in your car is banned in some states (more states will follow). They are also debating raising the drinking age from 18 to 21. They also just raised taxes on some drinks by about 50% to discourage teen drinking.

I think its a good thing there's nothing worse than sitting on the tube or the train with a stinky drunk tramp who prob never paid for his ticket anyway, Boris has said he will put more police on the public transport system although I am sure it will not be enough.

Hopefully that does happen but it won't happen in a month.

In Spain you can still smoke indoors, even though they have the anti-smoke law since 2005...so, it´s kind of cool...
