Malaysia passed legislation concerning what they call "U-turn" visa runs in April. They are on the lookout for people who travel BY LAND and turn around immediately - or the same day.

Mostly they are looking at young women - prostitutes - but I did have a friend (male - non-prostitute) who was hassled making a same-day u-turn.

While there are no guarantees, they seem to be targeting only land border crossings. Take a flight and you should have no problem.
