    Sex Ed week at my son's school

    His teacher has agreed to answer any and all sex-related questions submitted anonymously in a question box. It would be hilarious to watch his response to questions I would ask, like

    "What is the difference between a "Dirty Sanchez" and a "Rusty Trombone"?"

                          When I was a Sophomore in high school we had a week of sex ed. The split the rooms up with guys in one room, girls in another. Our teacher (also the gym teacher) pulls down a picture of the female anatomy and is explaining how a woman gets pregnant. He says, while using a pointer on the picture to illustrate his words, "The penis travels up the vaginal passage then ejaculates." He pauses, "oh sorry guys, that's the anus."

                          I think he must have had anal on the mind.

                                                              when i was in 6th grade they separated the girls and boys. the boys went with a male teacher and the girls went with a female teacher. us girls learned about our periods and puberty. so i'm assuming the boys learned about puberty too.
                                                              i remember there being some basic sex info but that's it.

                                                                          When I was in school the "awareness" classes started in grade 5. Even in high school, though, the guys usually just went and played football or wrestling instead of talking sex. They laughed about it while us girls were subjected to all the after school special movies about pregnant teenagers and STDs and abortion. My tenth grade gym teacher told us in graphic detail about her 14 hours of labour with her son. I think that did more than any movie could.

                                                                                  The point is to teach them the facts before they start trying anything out, so that when they reach the age at which they get curious, they already know the facts.

                                                                                  Wait until they're 15, and 15-25% will have had sex already, which makes sex ed a bit pointless.

                                                                                          Yeah, they never had any cool stuff like that back when I was in "health class" in those early grades. All we did was snicker. It was fun to watch the girls get all giggly over the anatomy chart with the penis. (that firehose was massive)

                                                                                                      My first year at the school we had a sex ed class (3rd grade). I remember it was all scientific about the sperm and egg. Me being completely clueless at the time I asked "how does the sperm GET to the egg?". I have no idea how they answered, I just remember getting told during recess by my friends that "the sperm gets to the egg from HUMPING, duh!".

                                                                                                      Then I remember a few years later during a sex ed class asking "so what happens if you cross like an elephant and a dog?"

                                                                                                      I alwasy find it funny when people say they went to "catholic school" and it was all uptight. I must have just got lucky and went to an all around good school that just "happened" to be catholic....

                                                                                                      Not only did sex ed start in 3rd grade, but we were also taught the theory of evolution! And they threw in the religious part by saying "the bible says the world was made in 7 days, but who knows what a day is to god, maybe it's a billion years" I've NEVER heard of creationsim untill the last few years. Go figure, a cathcolic school actually teaching real sciece without anything religous attached.

                                                                                                      I love the San Francisco Bay Area...even our Catholic Schools aren't uptite like some parts of the US.

                                                                                                                                      I went to Catholic School from K-12 here in LA. We had a sex-ed week during Health Class our freshman year in high school. I remember everyone making fun of the concepts because it appeared many had already experienced one form or another of sex, and so the point was rather moot. The cool thing about it was that the teacher for the course was the PE Teacher/Baseball Coach, and so he 'taught' the sex-ed stuff as though he were having a one-on-one talk with his son, very open, and not caring about saying cock and vagina. Highly entertaining, but nothing that nobody didn't already know. Probably a bit too late in our educational journey....The good ole days at St. Bernards.

                                                                                                                                                  I am 31 and we did the same thing and to make it worse the video we were shown was the cast of the, then, Broadway version of Annie telling us all about how they get periods too. Then they brought on the dog and included her in that.

                                                                                                                                                  Basic std stuff was better in high school but not much.
