Incredibly lame movie. I felt like I was watching Leonard from Big Bang Theory asking his computer girlfriend "what's wrong?" every ten minutes. Nothing interesting happens, the story goes nowhere, it gets boring fast.Comment

Says the guy who didn't watch all the film...
The film was exceptionally well written, it's a slow burner but well worth watching the whole film. I suppose it depends what you look for in a film, it's a sci-fi/drama so if you where looking for action/sci-fi I could understand the disappointment.
I think some of the best sci-fi films have been sci-fi dramas like...
Gattaca (1997)
K-PAX (2001)
Moon (2009)
For a low budget sci-fi film I thought it was great, much better than some of the big budget sci-fi films that have been churned out recentlyComment

When I turned it off because I simply couldn't stand it any longer there was at most 15 to 20 minutes left. The lack of action has nothing to do with it. The lack of an interesting story does. I actually liked the other movies you listed (Gattaca not so much, Moon very much). Her just seems like your typical pseudo intellectual film. How many times can he ask gis gf computer "what's wrong?" It was like watching a pathetic couple fight and argue for 2 hours.Says the guy who didn't watch all the film...

As far as sci-fi is concerned I'd say Singularity is a pretty interesting concept. When I turned it off because I simply couldn't stand it any longer there was at most 15 to 20 minutes left. The film was an analogy for how artificial intelligence will outgrow us once it reaches singularity and it used the breakup of a relationship to explain it so brilliantly.
The whole film was about a breakup of a relationship and the reason why relationships between two people fail. One partner outgrows the other and they no longer want the same things.
There was nothing pseudo intellectual about it, it was a simple concept that was beautifully written and executed. Hence the rating of 8.1/10 on IMDB and it's rightful place in the top 250 films list.Comment

The analogy or message in the movie is painfully clear. It's just not well executed. I enjoy movies about Singularity also, this is just not a good one. There's nothing interesting or original about it. Personally I hate to classify films as boring because there are plenty of slow moving movies that are excellent. As for the ratings, they mean nothing. I would say half the films in that top 250 have no business being there. As far as sci-fi is concerned I'd say Singularity is a pretty interesting concept.

According to what I read online, the spider represents his infidelity. When he sees it, it means the start of a new cycle of him being unfaithful to his pregnant wife.Originally posted by MrBottomToothJust watched this too. Great movie. Although maybe someone can explain the ending to me.Comment

Try 'American Hustle', a good movies, they don't make too many these days. And yes, some of the recommendation are great, you can't go wrong with the good old classics. Saw 'Lethal Weapon' these days again and damn, it was good and it was launched 27 years ago.Comment

Yeah...just listening to that old coot talk for an hour and a half is inspiring. He never got the movie made, but if you're creative it'll make you want to go create something directly after watching.
Tim's Vermeer is another amazing documentary, but it's about the technical side of art.
That would be an awesome documentary double feature.

"Under The Skin", is a beautiful and haunting cinematic experience. And I've also found "The Counselor" fantastic (despite the whole world telling me otherwise).Comment
