Ah, that sounded grumpier than I am. But really, wouldn't it have been nice to tell your affiliates first? We've been hearing "watch this space" since 4/23 -- and that's what the affiliate news still says.

I think the most interesting aspect of this is that a big program is using the 'Clips' model. I think we are going to see more and more of that in the next few years, especially for fetish and (so-called ) amateur porn.

I have my doubts about this model. Why would anyone pay $5 for a single clip when you can get for $30 access to a website that has 100+ of similar clips. The VOD system works when the same product is not available at a cheaper price somewhere else (ie Itunes) and is the same cost as a complementary product (ie Itunes).

The answer is simple. A lot of porn consumers just don't want to get involved with recurring billing. They just want what they want, one or more individual clips that strike their fancy based on the screen caps or the text descriptions. It doesn't matter that they could be downloading a lot more content for the same price if they joined a site as a member. They are happy to pay $5 or even $9 for five to nine minute segment, 1/5th of scene. I am successfully selling video clips in standard definition at 320x240 and some customers are even willing to pay $20-$30 for a single 30 minute sex scene! Given the relatively tiny amount of traffic my stores get now I have to say the conversion rate is pretty good. I think the clips model is going to be more and more popular the future.

Very nice site. May I ask what backend you are using for all of this, for the pay pr minute, rentals, download, and the burn to DVD functionality? Is it a software or 3rd party backend solution other producers can use or it it something completely custom and unique to your company?

Fairness also compels me to congratulate you guys on your recent progress in speeding up your payments -- they were always competitive in speed, but this month you paid me for April sales on May 2nd (!) which I think is absolutely the fastest affiliate payment I have ever received from anybody, ever. (Did I say "ever" already? Just in case: ever.) It's impressive, and my mind shrinks from contemplating the labor you must have put into your payment processing and accounting backend to make that happen.

Eman, I am wondering this myself, but there are enough examples in the industry (and in this thread) of folks who have made it work, that I'll suspend my doubts long enough to send test traffic. There aren't many sponsors who have that level of trust from me (I'm a cynical and suspicious bastard when it comes to affiliate programs) but Kink.com heads the short (very short) list.
