this is the official one, you pay one time fee and the domain will be yours forever http://www.rotld.ro/engleza/index_en.html -
You can get .ro @ gandi.net, 101domain, ovh or eurodns
Eurodns changed management last year or early this year if I'm not wrong.
If I were to get one, I would either choose gandi.net or eurodns, have had good experience at both these registrars in the past.Comment

of course he can get one from eurodns, marcaria etc. but, from what i remember, there you will pay a yearly fee and they will be also registered through rotld. Rotld is like Verisign for .comComment

yup, typical romanian bureaucracy at the best...if you want to move a stick in your garden, you have to sign many authorization shits, obtain the agreement of your neighbors - i m exaggerating but this is almost like thatthx for pointing me in the right direction. looks like transfering isn't that easy http://rotld.ro/portal/pages/en/8/Comment

You can transfer the domain to a new owner, but you can't transfer the domain to another registrar from rotld since is the only registrar for .ro. The other registrars such as ovh,101domain,eurodns are resellers.thx for pointing me in the right direction. looks like transfering isn't that easy http://rotld.ro/portal/pages/en/8/
It will be a pain in the ass to change the nameservers too, you will need to confirm via email the change.
Also the personal whois data is not public so good luck with DMCA requests.Comment

Given the nature of Deiz piracy business, he will be avoiding those. You can transfer the domain to a new owner, but you can't transfer the domain to another registrar from rotld since is the only registrar for .ro. The other registrars such as ovh,101domain,eurodns are resellers.

On the contrary.
Let's assume a pirate is running a .ro website, due to bureaucracy it will last years to remove content, even EA, Microsoft, Hollywood don't waste time taking down content. If we go forward, pirates can even buy IP space and the DMCA requests will be forwarded to the pirate. The bw is cheap and HQ(all major ISP's have private peerings with Level3,HE.Telia,etc).
A heads up to AK that is fighting against pirates , filelockers are just a scratch of the surface, the private torrent trackers have all the content you can think of and it can be downloaded for free with 1Gbit/s.Comment
