Google "blacklisted" domains, how do you know?

Now that google recently have "blacklisted" lots of very good domains running on porn-whitelabels how do you know this if you are looking for domains for sale??
I read here and there that once a domain has been listed by google to contain spam its impossible to get it ranking high again?
    Is this true?
Some of my own whitelabel pornsites have lost all the ranking because of google unlisting them.
Nobody wants to buy a 12 year old keyword domain if its impossible to rank it on google I guess?

If a site was blacklisted due content, then all what you need to is to change content and problem solved. After all even if you today have a site which is fully compliant with google policies,it doesn't mean how tomorrow will be as well.
What you need to do,first to check is it domani still indexed
with site:domain.com and info:domain.com search queries, and next step would be to see does domain still rank anywhere with using rank checkers.

Yeah if site:domain.tld says no results then it's not indexed and propably blacklisted
