My problem with conservatives is where they fall on most arguments. Their positions on almost every issue makes them look like non-empathetic, bigoted assholes. I'm not saying being Republican means someone is automatically racist -- but as I heard one former governor say recently "they can find a home under the Republican tent".

and the pettiness they've displayed in the last 5 years has made them a very unattractive club to be associated with. They've been a bunch of clowns, and make it easy for liberals to make fun of them.
