IR.net for sale: 1 million visitors + $XX,XXX revenue per year

    IR.net

    Considering offers for IR.net / ir.net
    • IR has more than 120 different meanings according to http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/ir including Infrared, Iran, Investor Relations, Im Ruhestand (German: Retired), Information Revolution, Inland Revenue (UK IRS), Interracial, and lots more.
    • IR is the ISO country code and top-level domain of Iran. IR.net attracts more than 80,000 visitors per month who are mistyping the net.ir extension of that country.
    • IR = "go" (infinitive) in Spanish.
    • Some very large companies are using this acronym.
    • You could start your own 3rd level "Iranian country code" e.g. domain.ir.net

Traffic: 83,400+ visitors per month ( >1 million per year), virtually all type-ins.

Revenue: About $38 per day on Sedo Pro ( >$1,100 per month). Screenshot below:

          BIN $166,000 (12 year multiple)

I received lots of questions and below are a few comments to address them.

          Traffic source
Most of IR.net's visitors are simply mistyping _______.net.ir domains (the Iranian .net TLD) as _______.ir.net. According to Webalizer stats 99.63% of the traffic comes from type-ins.

Thanks to its nature the traffic is very consistent at an average of 2,800 visitors per day. I expect that to double over the next decade (Internet penetration rate in Iran is currently at 27.50% of the population, up from 0.4% in late 2000.)

          Clarification about BIN
Current BIN is only 12 years of revenue. There is solid interest at the 5 year multiple level, however I probably won't sell that low. As a premium LL .net domain with many different meanings, IR.net would be a $25k+ domain without any traffic whatsoever. Combined with the traffic and revenue, investors can acquire a unique top-quality gem that's very difficult to find on the market nowadays.

Also, to clear up a common misunderstanding: This is "just" a domain, not a site. There's no work involved... just sit back and watch the visitors, or do something else. If you really want to work, you can try to increase the revenue by testing the domain at different parking providers and with different keywords, or develop a website on the domain.

There are much better places to find a buyer for a domain like this than gfy. The chances of you selling that name on here are slim to none.

dude, traffic may be consistent...but sedo won't pay until forever, when the traffic isn't making any money back...or will pay, but 10-20% of what they are paying now. And 12 years for traffic from Iran...

Thanks for all the comments. Current level of interest is in the $70k to $80k range (only 5 years of revenue) with four different parties interested at the moment.

I could probably be convinced to sell in the $100k range if no better offers come in. Otherwise I'll just keep the domain and enjoy the revenue.

The Iran factor is already accounted for. If this were something like CA.net, UK.net or ES.net most domainers probably wouldn't sell for less than 20 years' revenue.
