Kind of related, but my favorite jail thing from another country is Mexico. It seems in Mexico, if you escape from prison or even get caught trying you will get no added time to your sentence.
The reason is they understand all people want to be free and don't think it's right to punish people for trying to be free. Meaning if you ever find yourself in a Mexican prison, it's completely legal to try an escape.
