Have you guys seen Monument's Men?

Seen it yday and liek it, kinda different perspective on war than usual movies i have seen.
But i have a question to Americans here, one thing that strikes me so much that i started laugh my ass:

on the 1st scene with russian commander, when hes unloading pieces of arts there was germans sitting on the ground, when he was passing those germans he said:

    "give them some bread"

seriously? you really believe this? :D
do you think any russian soldier and especially commander would order his soldier to gave food to germans?
is that how you seeing WWII?
do you realize that russian army was incredibly poor, hungry, driven by fear from NKWD (special political motherfuckers regiment who was follow regular russian army and shoot EVERYONE who stays behind, no matter what reason - you are aware of this? or not?)

i'm not saying russians are bad ppl, they are not but their officers during WWII was tough bastards (thay have to be, see NKWD above) and not in position to give any food to anyone but their soldiers and in many occassion they could not, russian front was incredibly POOR.

give them some bread was biggest bullshit i've ever seen in any war movie and it would be sad if anyone would believe this, it's twisting history.

    you still don't believe?

my grandpa was squad leader in russian army, he was only person who have heavy machine gun, after his first battle he was happy cuz he find some leather strap and he could pin it to the gun and carry it on his back (machine gun was around 15kg heavy, to heavy to carry) some of soldiers from my grandpa squad doesnt have weapons during 1st battle, some doesnt have clips to rifles, do you think they have bread? lol...

bread? that was the reason you didn't like this movie? the whole movie was fabricated or exaggerated for the most part so I can't imagine why you chose that tid bit.

what I had read is 1 rifle for every 2 soldiers, the second soldier is supposed to pick the rifle up after the first guy gets killed and keep moving forward OR get shot in the back... you just need to keep in mind that movie guys are all 'ultra lefties for the most part and write/create from that point of view...

and there is seldom any truth in that area of logic... and the press at this time was praising Stalin and the great leader of the future, and communism as the best government possible...

Indeed it was a made up piece of claptrap, based on some historical facts. If you look at the end credits, the real people are pictured there You still read, how some of the descendants of the people ripped off are still to this day fighting to get the art back. The People holding it, are hoping they will all die off and "inherit" the works.

So are you saying that Russians didn't feed German prisoners? Ever? I know the Russians treated the Germans harshly, but it doesn't seem unreasonable that some times they were feed bread...

it just what strikes me as smth unimaginable.

didn't say i don't like movie, not sure how accurate it was but it shows war different than usual so i enjoy it.

maybe german prisoners get some bread from time to time but in this situation it was german convoy with stolen art, taken by russian, all what german would have would be bullets.

I'll have to watch it but movies will be movies, reality is not that appealing.

it was a propaganda movie, no doubt, sure there are some true facts,
but lots of stolen art ended up in the pocket of some individuals who became very rich after the war, nothing about this in that movie

brave american soldiers rescuing art for the general public , thats how its done in hollywood
