    So I taught my daughter how to ride a bike this weekend and...

    She rocked! up and pedaling in 2 minutes and taking off at 50 mph LOL. Only had to hold on to the bike one time before I let go. Before we knew it she was breaking, making turns, doing figure 8's. never even fell once.

    She felt like a champion and I did too. It was a proud moment.

                              I taught my daughter a couple years ago ... same scenario - up and peddling right away, breaking, figure 8's and all!

                              Definitely one of those proud moments!

                              It's funny, I felt the same way when I taught her to tie her shoes as well!

                              My son's most recent accomplishment was climbing up the step stool and washing his hands and face all by himself ... water still sprays everywhere but he's doing it!

                                                      We've been trying to teach our daughter how to ride a bike on and off for the past year. Nothing seemed to work. It wasn't until just now when the weather got warmer and all of the other kids started riding their bikes. Suddenly she figured it out.

                                                      Last week we went for our first bike ride and it was great!

                                                      So we went out this weekend and she managed to hit a pole pretty hard - to the point where we had to call a friend with a SUV to come pick her up.

                                                      She's fine now.

                                                      But yeah, what a whoot to have your child really riding a bike on their own for the first time.

                                                                  1 Shot and downed it from almost 50-60 yards away.

                                                                  It ran about 100 yards though before collapsing.

                                                                      hope she is ok! yea it's a proud moment. took a year of coaxing but I told her it is easier than riding her scooter plus we went out an tooled around on a little motorboat around the marina earlier and I let her steer in the basin and taught her how to 'steer'. it applied to the bike later that afternoon so she had a masterful day (I was more nervous about her crashing the boat than falling off the bike! )

She gets up now in the morning and goes to the bathroom before she even wakes anybody up. She is 3 1/2 years old.

                                                                                                                                                  I don't know about any milestones i have reached lately, I do consider The Barefoot Retreat a really big accomplishment though... monumental... probably not but now that it is over and i look at all the work that went into it I feel like I achieved something

Kira is in all gate classes and still getting straight A's, has opted to stay away from boys until she is older and learned to snowboard this season. i wont mention the down side of her turning 13 so you dont get scared. suffice to say, she has tried to get "lippy" and found it unwise.

                                                                                                                                                                      The GATE program is a great program if you take advantage of it. My daughter entered UC Davis as a first year sophomore after graduating high school because she took advantage of the offerings they had.

                                                                                                                                                                      She was able to attend Cal State LA during summer school. I think it cost me like $60 for all the credits she could handle. Definitely a good investment if she has the gumption.

Kira is in all gate classes and still getting straight A's, has opted to stay away from boys until she is older and learned to snowboard this season. i wont mention the down side of her turning 13 so you dont get scared. suffice to say, she has tried to get "lippy" and found it unwise.

I am sure she learned her lesson very quickly as for my 7 year old, when she even thinks of getting attitude and lip I tell her to check it at the door.

                                                                                                                                                                          and how about this one, a commercial with a teenage kid on it gets lippy with his mom when she calls him in for dinner and he says 'mom you're ruining my life!' and my daughters says to me 'I would never treat you like that' LOLOL. I was like ok, I only wish I had a video camera on you right now so I can play this back in a few years. (alas, if she does attempt to speak like that, she will be far from getting away with it.) I think she knows who she is dealing with by now

                                                                                                                                                                          then you have the moments like today in the grocery store when we are 'power shopping' and she says to me 'thank you for taking extremely good care of me'. WOW! that felt good!

                                                                                                                                                                                          she is 7 but she told me on her 6th birthday she won't be scared to ride a bike, a year and half later, here we are. only when they are ready they will get it faster. IMO

                                                                                                                                                                                              My son will be 7 next month and hasn't done the bike thing yet. I bought him one last year and then a week later he fell off his scooter and broke his arm. That ended any potential interest in learning how to ride a bike. Now he tells me he will try it when he turns 8.
