                                                                                                                                                            In a democracy, rulers are bound to the will of the people AT ALL TIMES. Some might say that since leaders in the US are elected that it meets the definition. However, the people have their say only one day every 4 years and are at the mercy of the government until then.

                                                                                                                                                            The closest thing to a democracy in the US is how the state of California decides things. They put a great deal of referendums on the ballots and let the people vote. In other states and on the federal level, the elected leaders do the most important deciding.
                                                                                                                                                            Correction...on the federal level...elections are held every two-four-six years.
