Paragraph #2
http://www.cdnshootingsports.org/tenmyths.html
"The best available Canadian research indicates that firearms used in self-defence by law-abiding Canadians exceeds the total number of gun-related deaths by a ratio of forty to one, saving more lives each year than are lost through the misuse of guns. In Canada, a civilian uses a firearm in defence of self, family or property (excluding police, military and security guard duties) an average of once every nine minutes, and half of these incidents involve defence against human threats. Firearms are used over twice as often in self-defence as they are in criminal violence, and save at least 3,300 lives every year. The self-defence use of firearms saves the Canadian economy hundreds of millions of dollars annually by protecting property against theft and vandalism, and reduces medical costs by preventing injury from criminal assault and wild animal attacks."

i realize america has gone down the gun path too far to ever come back from it. i was merely pointing out how it impacts canada. i have no interest in changing your laws but i can have an opinion about it, so suck it.Passing a new law here making guns illegal, would not make the millions of guns here suddenly evaporate. So what you would end up with is less legal guns, the MORE illegal guns there would be. This is what happens in Chicago.
And something you Canadians (and other foreigners) dont understand is that no matter how much you whine and bitch, you're NOT going to change our 2nd Amendment or any of our gun laws. Our own people that want to change it, cant get it done. And we really dont care what someone living in other countries think about it. So kindly fuck right off

Something you wont hear from a lot of Europeans these days - The reason they were walked over is because a lot of them thought the Germans might be on to something - France is heading in that direction even now...Our countries are intertwined and my roots are in your island. >;-) I'm pointing out that one particular episode in history from 1939-ish to 1945 is of particular interest here. To clarify, I am not complaining about American People. I complain that the gun laws seem out of whack and about the lack of pollution laws and enforcement, both of which kill a crazy amount of Americans.Originally posted by MrBottomToothThere's only about 3 Canadians on this board that constantly complain about the US. Oddly enough most of them seem to live in quebec.
In other words... I fuckin' love you!
To me it looks exactly the same as you described. When I look at the fake militia people during the Bundy Cattle thing, and Survivalists who stock up on guns & ammunition, it's like they are living out a fantasy of theirs... could there be such a thing as "Crazy Gun Nut Porn"?I don't really get bent out of shape about gun control either way, but one funny thing I've noticed...
When you start talking to real pro-gun folks about why their right to own assault rifles & whatnot is so important, 99% of the time it comes out that they have this juvenile fantasy of being the last bastion of Freedom & Liberty for this hazy future time when the big bad gubmint truly decides to take over. They really feel it's a plausible scenario that they and other gun owners will band together into like an effective resistance force to protect fellow citizens from the Feds or the US Army or the One World Government i.e. UN.
It's just a fairyland left over from playing cowboys & indians at age 8, what cracks me up is that these grown men take it dead serious and have no idea how childish they sound.
Mark, lets pretend for a moment that you attend a high school basketball game. At some point in the game, some dudes bust through the door and open fire. One of them approaches your area, grabs you or your wife/friend/kid, and sticks a gun to their head....
Would you rather:
1: Offer him a swig of your Molson Ice
2: Explain to him that you don't believe in guns
3: Throw your beer at him
4: Pull out your own gun and have a fighting chance to defend yourself and your loved ones?
Of course I would choose #4 and so would any other sane person. My point is that it seems to me that laws like Stand your Ground, and lobbyists like the NRA, are making it easier and easier for those crazy DUDES to get those guns and commit those crimes in the first place.
I admit it - talking about gun laws is a fun way to get people anxious. But think about it: We're all smart people here. We all run our own businesses and make pretty good money and have lots of brainpower: Isn't there another way, a better way, then to let the gun problem keep getting worse and worse?Comment

Ya, I do know a bit about the state of affairs at the time. Propaganda is a motherfucker. Idealists never want to see human nature as what it is. As a species we are easily duped by visions of Utopia.
Ummmm, that's why we need the fucking hardware man!!!! Even in the US the freakin' propaganda machine is in full swing 24/7. The winds of change don't always blow in the direction you want them to.email: zmaster (at) earthlink.net

Georgia, you are fucking crazy. Right to carry in bars? Do they know how many lives are being put in jeopardy by having a few packing drinkers? If you think there are too many douchebags already, just wait until one puts his Glock in your face for bumping into him.
We all know these people who like to carry guns wherever they go are all scared little narcissists who think the world is coming after them because they're so important.Last edited by bronco67; 04-23-2014, 07:00 PM.

Well, I may agree with you somewhat about drunk Georgiarednecks and guns. However the founders of this country (US) used to meet in drinking establishments as a matter of course. See previous posts about 2nd Amendment.
I'll give you that drunk rednecks in bars shouldn't be pulling out guns unless necessary, but drunk criminals don't obey laws anyways and pull them out at the drop of a hat in bars. So sometimes necessary.email: zmaster (at) earthlink.net

I'd rather be in a bar where MAYBE some drunk criminal pulls out his gun -- instead of the bar where every other person thinks he's going to be a hero, and starts shooting like it's Blazing Saddles.
and you can say drunk rednecks shouldn't be pulling unless necessary, but we all know how people act when they're under the influence of alcohol. They act like assholes who don't give a fuck. Now mix a gun into that. Do you think some drunk idiot will be thinking "oh, I better be responsible with my gun right now"? As soon as ANY situation pops up, he'll be debating as to whether or not he feels threatened enough to shoot. Even worse, his aim will be shitty because he's drunk.Last edited by bronco67; 04-23-2014, 08:04 PM.

for people using the 'mind your own business, you are not from the USA' argument, i think people outside the US form opinions because of western media which is US oriented, in combination with the fact that the US as a government does anything but mind their own business - acting as world police, telling every country what to do, invading them, worldwide spying, etc. This causes foreigners to be extra skeptical towards what's going on in the US.Comment

I think you'll find the UK with help from the Empire and other euro countries(mainly Poland and the Czechs), kept the Nazis out of the UK before the US got involved. (10 July to 31 October 1940)Last edited by Manfap; 04-24-2014, 02:53 AM.Comment

American gun law does have an effect on the rest of the world. Nuts in USA going around shooting people then shooting themselves, this get's reported worldwide on the news influencing other wannabe nuts. It is truly incredible how many people are shot dead in the USA or injured each year. No wonder you fuckers cannot stop invading other countries. To you a warzone is normality.
Then there is all the crap Hollywood pumps out full of violence, shootings, death, explosions...nearly every film. People are bombarded with this and no doubt subconsciously affected by it, otherwise how else would a country tolerate so many gun related deaths.Comment

That's because we drink it all, so there's none left for anyone else. There's tonnes of great beer up here. Some of the older micro-brews have been bought out and watered down (Upper Canada Brewing, is one of them) by the large breweries. The thing about beer is that really it has never traveled well, so best enjoyed locally.Rich"at"rebel-ads.com

I don't know if this is true or not, but let's say that it is. There's a really big difference though, and this is going to insult alot of you: Americans are AFRAID OF EVERYTHING. Americans are afraid of terrorists, of drug dealers, of black people, of diseases, germs, flying, WIND FARMS, Solar Energy, Electric cars, etc... Americans are mostly afraid of losing your rights, of giving up the constitution, of a black man as president. People are afraid of Bin Laden, Bingazzi (sp), and all kinds of crazy things.
In Canada, many people really do go to sleep without locking their front door... here in Montreal, we can walk down a downtown street at 4am... we can get into an argument at a bar and know that it will end at worst with a punch in the chops... We know who our neighbours are. We hold the door open for strangers, buy a stranger a cup of coffee or a beer....
Hunters and "Gun nuts" in Canada respect all of the laws. They love hunting and collecting and talking about guns. My own brother makes his own bullets for fucksakes... but unlike Americans, we just don't feel an overwhelming urge to sleep with guns on our pillows.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. There's nothing wrong with owning a gun. I've shot a few guns in my day and its kind of a fun thing to do.
What the big problem is, as I see it, is that lots of Gun-loving Americans are frightened into buying more and more guns thanks to groups like Fox News, right wingers, and the NRA. You are basically being sold on the idea to "BUY GUNS - PROTECT YOUR FAMILY - ooOOOooo!"
Apologies to any gun enthusiasts here - I don't mean to insult you. But isn't it possible that you were SOLD these guns under a false and dangerous premise?Comment

Calm down guys, I'm Canadian and I'm not ready to say that to have a gun control system would help. US population is 10 times bigger than Canada, and it's just "normal" that there is more drama happening on your territory than ours. Nonetheless, there is drama happening here, just 10 times less.
I'm an old hunter, I have 4 guns at home, and I'd like to go at the shooting range to shoot pistol, but do you know how complicated it is to get the permit? Unreal! You can have a car much easier than a gun, which one is the more dangerous? Both, if they are in the wrong hands. The second time the dog bites you, it's not his fault.
Comment
-
Americans need guns. It helps control the population. When you have a great country like the US everyone wants to live here so the population gets out of control. Canada has freezing cold weather 9 - 10 months out of the year, so that solves their population issues. Normal/crazy people dont wanna live in that kind of weather.
