Orange County I-5 / I-605 closed yesterday! gridlock!

My girlfriend was stuck in this yesterday.. she said people were climbing on the tops of cars n shit to see what the hell was going on.. Luckily she got off the freeway after about 30 minutes of waiting..

    ------

For the second time in recent weeks, a major freeway is closed down because of a suspicious package. KNX1070 is reporting on air that both the 5 and 605 freeways are closed in a 2-mile radius from the epicenter of the junction. Traffic is backing up from five to twenty miles in some directions. The South 5 freeway is backed up to at least the East LA interchange.

"Once you get in there, you're going to be stuck. Alternate routes are also backing up," KNX reported. At about 1:00 p.m., a package was reported to police. The freeway was then completely closed and no law enforcement entered the scene to confirm if a package is actually there until the bomb squad was en route.

If this is going to start becoming a trend, authorities in the Los Angeles region need to come up with a plan to deal with these in a safe, but expedient matter. Having a box fall from a truck onto the freeway can easily happen.

My office in the Valley is less than 20 miles from my house in Santa Monica. Mid-day it takes me 15-20 minutes to make the commute. On Fridays at 5pm it takes me about an hour.

We drove from Sacramento to Phoenix for Phoenix Forum; We visited family along the way. The I-5 was shut down north of the Grapevine because of an accident on the frist day, and the I-10 was shut down West of Phoenix. We spent a total of six hours at a dead stop on the freeway with both events combined.

            That's bullshit already.

I used to commute from the 605/5 junction down to the 405/5 start in south OC.

I did it for 6 months and I would never do it again no matter what the pay was or what the reason. Fuck it. Horrible.
