Can one sue you for not removing links to his site?

I have a few sites which automatically populate content from various open sources via public API's. Almost forgotten about these sites, they are working automatically and bringing some visitors...

Some guy emails me today with request to remove links to his site and if not removed, he says he will be forced to file a legal court-case to recover possible cost of copyright infringement.

I'm just too lazy to go through these sites and search/remove his stupid links and I dont give a fuck if they affect my or his google rankings. If he has problems with google rankings, why not mail fucking google?

Am I missing something, or placing a link to someones site can be considered as "copyright infrigment" now?

Is it just a link or are you scraping his content and posting it as yours?

Try and bear in mind, you're the asshole - not him. Pull his links like a normal fucking person and you won't have to worry about whatever action he may want to pursue.

In the same way that an address belongs to the city the URL belongs to the internet -- neither is ''copyright''.

Media content is copyright not its location.

That said, if you are displaying his content other that what may be allowed in fair use -- that is copyright infringement

I got a threat once over a spam comment on a blog, if they'd asked nicely I'd have removed it, it was no skin off my nose, but since they came all threatening and bluster I ignored them.

This is not legal advice, lol.

Has a DMCA or similar legal notice been issued by him/on his behalf?

That's pretty much proper procedure/precedent before things go to court if I understand properly.

He's probably just trying to scare you with the threat of a suit so you'll take the links down but yeah...if the guy sought you out, regardless of how he came at you, take 'em down.

People like that piss me off. I will remove links when people just kindly ask me to but when retards like that mail me and threat me with shit I usually remove the links and then head to Fiverr and buy thousands of crappy spam-links to their site.
