    Have you ever known somebody with a mail order bride?

    Or a mail order bride herself? I just watched a show following a couple where the wife was mail order from Russia. I wondered if I knew anybody that had went that path. I don't think so but then I guess you never really know.

    Ever known a guy that ordered a bride or a bride that was ordered?

                                                                                  Then he came back home and claimed they got in a fight and she never got on the plane with him to go home. I can't remember if he supposedly killed her over there and dumped her, or did it when he got back to the States. I think they lived in the Oregon/Washington area.

They've been married for almost 30 years and seem very happy. She was allowed to meet him and hang out with him before making the decision so it wasn't forced on her in any way.

                                                                                          Since moving here and having much contact with Asians (as Indians/Pakistanis are called here) I have known more than a few that are in arranged marriages and even more whose parents are and most are okay with it. We have a few cases of forced arranged marriages popping up in the news these days here (sure it happens there too) but generally it is still alive and accepted in that community.

                                                                                              It's when he got back to the States and he did it in his garage with the help of his neighbor. He believed she was going to leave him (just like the first mail order bride did to him years earlier).

                                                                                                                          Maybe not the Pakistani's (I don't know), but some of them have decent systems - the Indians, the Lebanese (alot in Sydney). I went over to Lebanon with a friend when he was intending to marry (actually met him there on my way back from Europe). They aren't forced marriages really, when they find out he is interested in marriage they just 'introduce' their daughters to him by inviting him around for dinner, if the daughter likes him to than they start hanging out and marry soon after. Only slightly different to how we do it here in a lot of cases.

They seemed happy and had children and a were not looking to run off. How many would do better by getting a Green Card, where ever they are, and fending for themselves compared to living in a happy loving relationship?

What a lot this guy went through to get his bride from the Phillipines. Two trips, legal matters, letters, etc. And then for mail order bride to be totally unhappy upon arrival. He couldn't get her to sleep in his room. In the end, she left his house to live with some other Philippines and she had a coke addiction. I'm not sure what the outcome was. I think he was trying to get her sent back.
