What should I get to replace this video card???

My fan just broke on this card:

    http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p...D128&class=vga

I am NOT a hardware dude. Any advice on an (easy) replacement? Upgrade would be cool, as long as it doesn't require too much extra effort.

              I don't know about agp x.

I guess I'd like to spend around $100? Unless there is reason to spend more.

Does it matter if it is PCI or ??

As I look around. Maybe $100 isn't enough.

A decent card that will last awhile is going to be 200-300 range.

If you have a pci-e slot I would use that over agp personally...

Both are basically just motherboard socket types.

just get a new fan for it brother. i bet frys will have a replacement. easy enough to change unless the fan being dead fried the circuit board.

and if you do have to change it and have the pci e slot go that route. spend the extra 40 bucks.

Does it even cause any problems for you without the fan? I would think it would still function fine unless you run some 3d apps or play video games on it....

a sub $100 ATI HD card for sure... don't bother spending 200-300 right now, you're an idiot if you do that and don't play games. the ATI HD cards help with video encoding and playback and can be had for as little as $40 with some pretty sweet ones around $100.

It would pay off more to spend $100 on an ATI HD card now and then in another 1.5 years if you're still in that same PC dropping another $100 and having a far better card than you can get right now for $300 all while having only $200 total invested.

as you can see that car us AGP and I don't think the Geforce 8800 of ATI HD 2600 come in AGP, only PCI-e.

IF they do have them in AGP you will pay almost double the price in most cases. If that's the case he'd be better off upgrading his motherboard to one with with at least 1 PCI-e 16x slot and get one of the cards that you mentioned. It would be cheaper in the long run.

It's probably just shutting down to save the card from heat damage. The card itself might still be good. You could replace the heatsink and fan on it and probably save yourself a couple bucks.
