Rush has like 3-4 "phases". My fave is the Seventies Rush. "2112" is the big record from that era (for me) but basically anything they did between '74-'82 is their 'Golden Era".
After that they got into keyboards in the '80's/'90's. Then they dropped out for almost a decade while drummer Neil Peart dealt with the death of his wife and daughter (I think - lost touch with Rush around this time). Now they are back and still rocking it.
Fuck man, just crank 'Limelight', "Tom Sawyer' and "The Necromancer" (or "Xanadu") and you'll get it. :D

2112 was about the time I picked up on Rush. I was a big Kiss fan back in the day and Rush was touring with them.
One day in High School i picked up my book and read a poem. Wow I thought. Rush actually got some of their lyrics from this poem. The poem is Kubla Khan by Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Not really sure how I felt about them then and wondered how much more of their stuff was just gotten from previous works.
