It doesn't matter. The religous groups were actually upset when they went after Extreme and now us over at Max World. They wanted the government to go after who they think has more of an impact on the majority of society, not the extreme fringe.
There is no amount or an acceptable type of adult entertainment when it comes to the family values groups or bible thumpers.

They don't seem to be going forward to me, Tony. The anti-porners greatest legislative wins were in the 1990s with COPA and CDA. Both shot down by higher courts.
If I recall correctly you have been around long enough to remember the Meese Commission and all the obscenity prosecutions in the 80s and early 90s. Much, much worse than anything going on today.

I got part of the story wrong, the part on who broke it. Apparently even John himself knew nothing about the indictment until XBiz called him asking him about it. They actually broke the story and they have rooted out the two titles involved:
“The movies named in the indictment are “Milk Nymphos” directed by Jay Sin, “Storm Squirters 2″ directed by Joey Silvera and a trailer from Belladonna.”

This is where you're wrong. Material produced by adults for adults shouldn't be anyone else's business....and anyone who's been willing to fight the man with a competent legal team in cases like these has prevailed.
There is no "gray area" man....when did you decide that your wife's cam shows aren't obscene....and her lesbian scenes aren't obscene....but evil angel's squirting scenes might be obscene?
Obscenity has to be defined using contemporary community standards.....contemporary means today, a day when 99% of people with internet access have seen Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson suck cock. Community is a little more vague, but if the community is the internet where the content was delivered or California where the content was produced/shipped from....then the prosecution is going to have a hard time proving that this material is patently offensive based on the standards of said community.
Prosecutions like this serve two purposes.
1) It's a shakedown. They get a guy to pay a 6 figure fine and plead to a lesser charge and it ends up being cheaper for him than if he were to fight and win. They get the $$ they need to prosecute the next case.
2) It scares the shit out of other people in the same industry. It's certainly scared the shit out of you.sig too bigComment

OK but here's the thing Tony.....you believe in the "lion in the woods" theory, as do I.
The theory goes, if we're both walking in the woods and a hungry lion comes up behind us, I don't have to outrun the lion, I just have to outrun you.
This works in terms of obscenity prosecution because historically the government has chosen to prosecute the most offensive material they could find, because they believe it will result in an easier conviction. Therefore, as long as your material isn't as offensive as the next guy's, it's not likely that you'll be a target for prosecution.
My problem with some of your statements is that you've gone two steps further, and assume that because someone is pushing the envelope with their content, or doing things that are beyond what you consider the norm, that they deserve to be prosecuted.
That's totally the wrong attitude to have with this. You should be thankful that there are people out there pushing the envelope because it keeps you from being a target.
Don't think for a second that if the extreme content went away that the bible thumpers would be happy and leave the rest of us alone....they would just move on to anything hardcore, and then any nudity from the waist down....and they wouldn't rest until all women everywhere were dressed like the Amish or the Muslims.
You should, if anything, speak up for people's right to produce and enjoy extreme material, so long as the performers and the audience is made up of consenting adults. That's what freedom of speech is all about.sig too bigComment

For instance in this case, you're not saying the government is trying to trample someone's rights by prosecuting him.....you're saying that stuff was coming out of the girl's vagina on the boxcover so that puts it in a gray area. (therefore my take on what you said is that if they toned it down a bit they wouldn't have been prosecuted....therefore it's their own fault they were prosecuted)
With the COHF guys, you were saying they were stupid for shooting porn in Florida....instead of saying that the government was acting like Nazi's trying to take away people's right to free speech. (My take was that you were saying if they shot it in California instead of Florida they wouldn't have any problems...so the fact that he could spend 50 years in jail is also his own fault)
Remember, free speech doesn't just apply to speech you agree with or speech you enjoy. Any adult, anywhere in a free country, should be able to film themselves having sex if they so choose. They should also be able to have that sex in any manner they see fit, so long as both parties consent. Any other adults should be able to watch that video of the sex act if they so choose.
If someone was being forced to have sex on video, or someone was being forced to watch sex on video....then that would of course be wrong.....but if everyone CHOOSES to either perform or purchase and/or view these materials.....then it's none of the government's damn business.
I find it difficult to believe that you don't agree with that, yet you work in this business.
While the material you work with is definitely not extreme, comparatively speaking, I promise you that it is just as offensive to the people prosecuting Evil Angel, and the people who are cheering those prosecutors on.

Fuck, my head wants to explode when I read people that have never spent a single day in court staring down the barrel of an obscenity prosecution commenting and acting like they know what is going to happen. Over 10 years ago I was sitting in a courthouse in Dayton, Ohio facing an obscenity prosecution, when the city of Dayton decided to prosecute us for obscenity based on a few VHS tapes we sold to an undercover officer. The jury was made up of predominantly older women, and they were forced to view the tapes in court,, most of which had content that I thought was indefensible.
But a funny thing happened after the jury deliberated. They acquitted us on all charges, saying that while it was not their cup of tea, they couldn't find it obscene. This was over 10 years ago, before everyone had a computer and could see everything from beheadings to a girl shoving a baseball bat up her ass on a daily basis. And please don't pull out the conservative jury bullshit, because it doesn't get anymore conservative than Dayton, Ohio.
The fact is people are not as conservative as the Republican administration would have you believe, and obscenity prosecutions never work...Comment
