As for the rest, I still maintain that Ukraine is irrevocably divided, not because Putin or any other outsider says so, but because it really is. Therefore, the most civilized solution would entail allowing the Ukrainians themselves to decide, region by region, which way they wish to go. Now, of course it won't actually go down like that because that would make too much sense after all.

Why does Russia need to have a Naval base in Crimea? They have coastline on the Black Sea without Crimea, so this isn't even a valid point to debate. If Russia wants a port and or a naval base on the Black Sea, well, build one. Soci is on the Black Sea, build one there.
If Crimea wants to leave, do it legally. Not by force.
