They are empty calories, but a Rum and diet coke is zero everything else. I drink rum straight on the rocks. And I'm starting to lose weight again.

Well, I think I also have an overly strict interpretation of what sugars are. I know when I drink hard liquor I'll need to take some insulin because my blood sugar will go up. If I plan on drinking beers, I'll have to take even more/longer acting.
So for me, alcohol = sugars = carbs = required insulin. That's what's been beat into my brain anyway!
