You have way more flexibility without a spouse and definitely without kids. I have a 14 and 5 yr old and there have been so many opportunities that I have passed up because it would affect them by moving, changing job or schools, losing friends. If I was single I would have gotten more done, no doubt about it. Of course I do love my kids so it has all been worth it, but I still have those "what ifs" in the back of my mind sometimes.Old SchoolComment

If your wife works and brings in as much as you do, then being married would get you to retirement quicker as you could live off one of your salaries.
If your wife stays home, then you are working for her retirement.
If you have children then you, will be out of $250,000 by the time they turn 18 on average.

It is a fact. I was married, been divorced over 10 years now, and while we were married there were 2 incomes and 1 set of bills. After the divorce, I had the exact same bills as before the divorce and my bank account grew at a much faster rate than before the divorce.
