    Would you publicly kill a bird?

    Senario. You are walking down a busy street, and stop at a crosswalk...

    In the gutter, on top a drain, is a pigeon... Its OBVIOUSLY injured - Been hit by a car or something.... It has a wing smashed up the wrong way, and it is covered in blood, and trembling....

    Other people are looking down, stepping over, and ignoring it...

    Do you stamp on its head and put it out of its misery, (while risking the wrath of a so called 'do-gooders' who are just walking past) or join the crowd and ignore it?

      I killed a injured seagull once in front of some people.. Never seen shit hit the fan so fast. Some people just don't understand that you want to stop the suffering of that animal. They just go apeshit.

                          Skipped a rock into the head of a pond duck once. We took it home and bbq'd it.

                          As for killing the bird. Large neck breeds like seagulls you grab it by the head and swing it around in a circle. Cracks the neck. Or bite the back of it's head. Small neck breeds like doves you just pluck their heads off. They pop off like grapes.

                                              I grew up on a small farm that raised pigs, cows, sheep, chickens, and the occasional alpaca. Sometimes you have to take an animal down for its own benefit. Sad yes, but always necessary.

                                                                      I think the correct protocol before putting the animal out of it's misery is to shout "Who want's to take this pigeon to the vet and pay the expenses" then after 10 seconds of silence, put it out of its misery.

                                                                                  The only way to justify that is if you are a vet - basically, you know that the bird cannot be saved and do the "right thing." Are you a vet?

                                                                                                                  The worst I have ever had to do was put my cats down when it was time. I took them to a Vet Hospital, and enter a very quiet room. A technician comes in and preps the cat. You sit for a while and say goodbye then when you're ready, the tech comes back in, injects the drugs. The cat closes its eyes and its over. It's a heart-ripping tear-fest, but the animal is put down quietly, comfortably, cleanly, and even with dignity. I couldn't do it any other way.

My instinct guided me the the garage to take a shovel and smash the poor pup out of his misery. The owner who came a little bit after thanked me as the dog would of not made it.

                                                                                                                                      To all of you "take it to the vet" people. Vet's do not take wild animals. I know this from experience.

                                                                                                                                      I found a young injured crow in our backyard years ago. I was going to kill it but then my wife saw the fucking thing and I couldn't carry out my planned execution.

                                                                                                                                      We spent the rest of our Saturday afternoon calling animal shelters and running around town. Finally, we found a place 45 minutes away that would take the bird but they wouldn't accept it until Monday when someone was there. The bird died Sunday so that was the end of it.

                                                                                                                                          I had to put down a sick chicken from the flock one time.. put its head on the chopping block and lopped it off with a hatchet.. couldn't eat it because it was sick.. it wasn't gonna last another couple hours.. so I did what I thought was best and severed the spinal cord.. It really made me feel effed up for a little bit.. maybe because it was a pet that we cared for as a chick and got lots of eggs from after it matured

Used to do it to rabbits all the time. Our govt, in its infinite fucking wisdom, released myximatosis into the Aust rabbit population in an attempt to control population numbers. Needless to say it didn't fucking work but it does make them behave stupidly, eventually makes them blind. They will often turn and run off the road and then turn again and try to cross the other way right in front of your car. I don't like leaving them to die slowly so I would go back and break their necks.
