Michael Hedges was brilliant. I was fortunate to hear him early on, soon after he released Aerial Boundaries.
I was deeply saddened when he died in a car crash a decade or so ago.
John McLaughlin and Michael Hedges are two of the guitarists I most respected, because they did much more than play their instruments, they revolutionized the way in which th guitar could be played.
Thanks for sharing - time to slip on "Aerial Boundaries"...

I was lucky enough to see him years ago in a small theater in Huntington NY (The IMAC)
It ranks of one of my all time favorite shows.
Did he pass the torch to anyone? a protege perhaps? I know he's one in a million but he must have inspired so many people with his playing, but I have yet to see anyone else play like him.

I seo'd my hair yesterday and today it's pr7!

Years ago, I saw Hedges do an in-store performance at a small record shop in Tallahassee. It was amazing. Like watching him play in your living room.
Hadn't listened to him in some time. Thanks for reminding me.Comment

Although she lacks the sensitivity and instincts of Michael Hedges, I do enjoy the energy and some of the techniques that Kaki King brings...I was lucky enough to see him years ago in a small theater in Huntington NY (The IMAC)

Kaki King live
I was at this show:
Doing the Wrong Thing
There are so many talented muscians out there - it bothers me that they do not have the means to be noticed in this age of packaged musicians, and worse still, packaged non-musicians.

I found this guy while checking out some more Hedges videos on you tube. AGDWD you might like him... he's obviously heavily influenced by Hedges.

Thanks again Chio...
Here is one of my favorite finger picking songs that I can actually play:
Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You - performed by Led Zeppelin
Many Led Zeppelin songs are great acoustic (unplugged)...
If you noticed in your other thread about the best bands ever, most of the bands I listed performed songs that were great whether performed acoustic or electric. I believe that many of the great songs are composed acoustically, and then re-arranged for electric.
I love to play electric when performing for others, but when I play for myself, or try to compose, invariably it is on acoustic first.
BTW, someone earlier in this thread mentioned Spanish guitarists, and indeed Spain has produced some of the greatest guitarists ever - Andres Segovia immediately comes to mind.
I had the pleasure of seeing the great Flamenco guitar player Carlos Montoya play on several occasions too (he was one of my early influences).
I grew up in Hawaii, and also learned to play slack key guitar from one of the Island masters, Peter Moon (he had a band called the Sunday Manoa).

John McLaughlin and Michael Hedges are excellent. I know Joe Satriani has been around forever but still love to listen to him. Great video btw. When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I’ve never tried before.Comment
